As to "enthusiasm"...I dunno, seems like around here most female anglers fish socially, not so much as an end solely unto itself. You'll find lots of them fishing from drift boats in nice weather. I've seen women fishing rough in the backcountry only once in 20 years. I almost never see women out pulling streamers in a sleet storm in November. I haven't seen any women postholing in the snow on the Henry's this winter. I'm certainly not saying there aren't excellent female anglers around here. Just saying, even the best, they got different priorities when it comes to fishing. Getting first tracks on a stream doesn't seem to be one of them. Walking long distances offtrail to get to unfished waters doesn't seem to be one of them. Being physically uncomfortable for hours just to have that shot at the fish of the year doesn't seem to be one of them. Those are all measures of "enthusiasm", imho.
