was a lil skate grom back in the days of Dogtown and again in the punkish mid to late 80's so proper skilz are not a problem. have since lost touch with the whole scene, but interested in getting a long board.
need help with getting a top of the line model (brand, dimensions, etc. - all specs please)
help me spend my hard earned $$
edit: I'm 6'-0 195 if that matters and I want it mainly for hills, with a little cruising thrown in for variety

X. Ya gotta go to the store and check em out or get on your buddies decks. There are so many different styles of "long boards" out there now it's insane. IMO, way to many people ride a "race" style flat long board for the wrong reasons. Do you like bombing or carving? Do you want to be able to ollie curbs or you OK picking up your board etc. I ride a 38" Baredeck w/ Kryptos and Indys and I love it. I use it around town and "free carving" or whatever the fuck its called.

don't envision worrying about curbs too much; if I run into them will prolly pick up rather than ollie

I'm riding a semi long board right now (basically just a longer wider regular deck) from Skull Skates (the All City). It's great for cruising, but can be ollied and is a blast in the bowls. I've got it set up with 68mm 82a wheels.

Check out www.tahoelongboards.com. I have a Talmont 52, and it's pretty killer, super carveable, stable, and a pretty reasonable price for a complete. Skull Skates are always sick too, different kind of aesthetic for sure.

Best decks I have ridden have been homemade out of 9-ply.
Trucks- 1.Randall R-2's. The best.

Abec 11's? How long do they last? Seems like anything higher than 5 doesn't give you much life.

For carving I like the flexier maple/fiberglass boards. I checked out a bunch and went with a Sector9 Cosmic II. I believe it's about 38" long. It's nice and flexy so you can carve down a street with it real nice and get a really flowy, surfy feeling. Same when just cruising on flats. It has a shorter pointed nose and a nice kick tail, although the thing is impossible to ollie on.Quote:

Remember SMA? I always thought they had the raddest stuff. I talked with skipper last week and he said there is some composite longboards that they have been pressing that weigh less/hold camber than a smaller skatedeck.
