Adding AC to existing furnace?

Looking for some ballpark figures on adding AC to an existing forced air system. Home was built in 2009 with a gas furnace and is already plumbed for a heat pump (all of the control wiring and piping is in place, not sure of any other components present in the furnace or not). House is only ~1000 sq ft and quite efficient, so not sure what the return on investment of a heat pump is, but thinking AC would be nice after the last few summers of weeks of 100+ temps in Western OR. Haven't lived in a home in the PNW with AC since I was born here, but figure it might be good for resale value as well.

Searching around I am seeing numbers in the 3-4000 dollar range for a 2000 sq foot home.

Thoughts?

Seems about right but you need determine if your electrical panel can support the additional load.

Forgot to mention, there is a breaker box where the piping/cabling terminates on the exterior of the home. It's like they were ready to install it and then pulled the plug at the last minute (2009 so not surprising).
