A Spanish matador has been gored to death in the ring. I was surprised to learn that this is the first matador killed in the 21st Century. I thought bullfighting was more dangerous than that.

I heard the bullfighter was carrying a concealed weapon.
I always root for the animal.
On live TV. Also three other gored in different towns "running with the Bulls"

A moment of silence
Once (probably 1975), I was at a bullfight in Madrid. The matador was gored and had a lung punctured. At the time of the goring, he thrust his blade into the bull and killed him. The ear of the bull was cut off and tied to the matador's hand. The matador was picked up by 3-5 banderilleros and was carried around the ring with cheers from the crowd for 5 mins before being rushed to the hospital, or morgue.
Is is just me or do others like to see the animals win from time to time. Read something about a pride of lions killing a group of poachers in Africa the other day. Not like you are assuming something can't go wrong by jumping into a ring with a bull. Was at a Costa Rica local town rodeo last year and they had bull ring. Total make shift ring, no rules, anyone could go in after the rider was bucked off. Those bulls looked huge from my vantage point on top of the ring and I'm guessing the Bulls in Spain at these major events dwarf the ones in CR.

Happy for the bull
On some of these nature / science shows where they are tranquillizing some poor animal to put on a radio collar or something, i invariably catch myself rooting for the animal to wake up and f@ck someone up. i recognize that the such collaring efforts are done for the greater good etc. but f@ck it, i wouldn't mind seeing the poor bear or wolf dish out some punishment. Come to think of it, his sounds like a potentially fruitful youtube search. I'll let you guys know if I find anything of interest.Quote:

Another Arctic wolf, caged in an area behind the enclosure, was also found pacing and appeared agitated.
Six beluga whales, each about 2 meters long, were swimming in a glass tank about four metres deep, six metres wide and 15 metres long.
Deeper into the interior of the facility, three Adlie penguins were fenced off on a small patch of snow. Staff said they would be isolated for 20 days to prevent them from swimming and falling ill as they moult.
Four walruses were seen swimming in a tank around one metre in height, one metre in width and five metres in length.
The Guangzhou Zhengjia Group which runs the Grandview Aquarium, issued a “Biodiversity Conservation Proposal” on Thursday, promising that all animals were acquired through formal and legal channels, and that the aquarium would operate according to relevant laws and rules.
But an animal welfare specialist criticised the facility as too small for the animals.

He Yong, the China director for campaigns and communications at the International Fund for Animal Welfare, said the inadequate enclosures would seriously damage the animals’ mental and physical well-being.
“The Arctic wolf pacing around and scratching at the walls shows its mental health has already been badly damaged,” he said.
“It’s obvious that it is not used to the extremely small space.
“If these animals are captured in the wild, it is even more problematic,” he said. “Wild animals belong to the wild.”
He said China has “too many” zoos and marine worlds, many of which are “in very poor conditions”.
The Sunday Morning Post contacted the Grandview Aquarium for comment but there was no immediate reply.
Tickets ranged from 208 yuan (US$32 or HK$246) to 260 yuan.
International animal welfare charities have long criticised the authorities on the mainland for not doing enough to protect wildlife and domestic animals from cruelty and abuse.
Their complaints include the demand in China for often endangered animals as food or as ingredients in medicines.
I was shocked to hear that it was a Spanish bull fighter, poor showing, I would have guessed a Cambodian Matador. Although that is always my-go to trivia answer

you'd like the way real men hunt feral boars in texas. they catch it and wrestle it to the ground before they kill it (or the boar messes them up). just shooting it is not considered sporting, even with a bow and arrow.Quote:
