We're doing a Level 1 Avalanche Safety course in Reno again in March 2015. This course is great, since the classroom portion is given at night, so you won't have to take a day off of work and it's in Reno. The instructor has decades of experience and is a cool guy. Secrets of the Snow (my personal favorite)
The Avalanche Handbook
Freedom of the Hills (has avalanche section, but recommended for general mountain knowledge if you don't have a copy)
Snow Sense makes for a good intro. Then Staying Alive or Avalanche Essentials.
