hey bcrider. While we're at it I wish i had your patience to edit video! The skiplane was like a floatplane - really smooth. I cant figure out how the pilot knew we touched down- that's why the windsock and flags are there I guess.
-
Great TR over there on your site. I read the entire post and it's nicely written. The Great White North - gotta get there sometime with Mrs. Stash. Looks like Sharon can rip the pow with a full pack - good find!
edit - oh yea, obessing over a particular mountain is a common theme with me. Welcome to the club.
-
Lee Lau you know I love your work. This is outstanding!
-
Bump.
Because this is what it's all about.

Correct. The plane was affordable + much more predictable than heli. We also dovetailed groups going in and out so it worked out well.
It's just a little bit shy of halfway on the Great Divide tour so often groups would get a cache drop also. But this is all obsolete now

I'd be keen but cost would be way higher with heli. Shipton Tusk etc had big crevasses too so I'd imagine they're bigger and more open now.
Never got to see or ski Pic Tordu, Livingston or Rhodes due to weather. Those are rarely skied and have big faces

Thanks, i thought i might have misunderstood. Could be a decent business for someone. I guess there's more potential customers these days.
I think it was the north face of livingston that looked big and steep and amazing

We heli'd in on my first ever Canadian ski trip. Stayed at the very funky pre fab hut that was on the moraine below Clemenceau. Had to bring diesel in for the balky stove that was the only heat. Saw wolverine tracks around the hut one morning. Skied with a buddy most of the way up Clemenceau and back down without hurting ourselves, which in hindsight seems like we might have gotten away with one there. Another lifetime ago.

For Alyn. Sure has changed a lot in 18 years. Most of the stuff wr skied or toured too are unrecognizable per the Gaia World Imagery layer

What if I told you there was a way to park 12-18 km skin away to basecamp?!
And yes, was thinking the changes and this years snowpack may have changed the ski options quite a bit

Was just thinking about Clemenceau the other day and jumped on google earth to avoid work and was shocked to see tracks the whole way down the north face. Some nice timing to get those tracks captured from space. So curious about the story of those descents. I’m not a Google Earth pro but it seemed to say the images were from August 2022? Doesn’t really make sense. Would love to hear more about that if anyone has any ideas. Attachment 508723
Was also out that area this summer, taking a look at mountain Brogolie. Stunning adventure with some great views of Clemenceau. (Just a phone camera).
