IBEW Roll Call
Hey fellow brethren, I have been recently laid off here in local 3 in NYC. Our work picture isn't looking too good in these parts and I'm curious how it is in other parts of the country. Is it worth it to get a letter to travel? What's the skinny in your local?

I am in CA, not a sparky but I work for a large GC. SF is blowing up, tower cranes and TI jobs all over. Down south there are plenty of jobs as well. OSHPD Hospital work is still going strong. All the major airports have hundreds of millions in work on the schedule. Residential seems to be up as well... I don't know if you want to travel that far, but there is plenty of work here.

Go to San Fransico. Its going to be the closest thing to what you are use too on the job. Strong Union town. Great waves, and if your there in winter close to the mountains. Good mountain biking also.
Travel. It will do you good
and thanks for opening up your work to me back in 1986 or so. Worked out of Local3 and lived on 122nd st in Rockaway.
Because of the Traveling I did then I now live in San Diego. I grew up and got my ticket in Houston, Local 716. God Im glad I dont live in that shithole anymore.
Good Luck

I work for a utility in the northwest and while things are a little slow up here I hear Cali is the place to be. PG&E is replacing something like 100k poles this year and linemen can work 6 10's if they want it.

Thanks for the info guys. San Fran is booming? I wasn't thinking about going that far west. If Cali had any snow in the winters, believe me it would be on the top of my list. I'm going to think about that one. This is all assuming they are taking travelers at the moment......
