Gannett Peak in a day

Here's some photos from skiing Gannett Peak last week. We started at the Green River Lakes.

After 13 miles of mostly flat jogging along the Green River we turned up Wells Creek

I remember reading a report by Steve Romeo who said you could just sidestep through the cliff band on the north face, but I wasn't sure exactly where was the best place. So here I am looking around..... It's obvious from my friend's perspective where I should come through but I couldn't hear him so I ended up downclimbing through a much more spicy section. Oh well.

Round trip was exactly 40 miles in about 17 hours. It could have been much faster if there was more snow in lower Wells Creek which would have saved us about 2 hours of slow boulder hopping. I'd love to come back in late winter next season and hit some of the other great lines in the area.

Huge props. Thats not a "day walk in the park" as they say. My buddy and I went from the trailhead outside to Dubois to Elkhart Park a few years ago and it was one of the best peak bagging backpack trips I've ever done. So much scenery. We took 5 days though😉

That's an impressive sufferfest! How many miles did you get to ski vs. hike? You could start doing ultramarathons wearing a pack with skis at that distance for fun!

about 30 miles on foot, but the objective was worth it. 8000 vert total.

Awesome! If you went up right around when the road opened Im pretty sure we saw your tracks in that west chute a couple days later. We went from Elkhart and camped in Titcomb, then summited on May 4th. Hadnt seen any recent signs of humans till we saw those tracks. Nice work!! Amazing mountains out there!
