Yeah, I know the way to San Jose. I just don't know what to do when I'm there. I'll be working in the Redwood City/Sunnyvale area Tues night -> Friday. I've never been to the area. What are the featured attractions, don't miss bars, gentleman's clubs, midget wrestling tournements etc? wrd.

drive north on 101 about 35 miles to SF, or over the hill on 17 about 20 miles to Santa Cruz....SJ is boring.
I'm thinking more along the lines of a couple of drinks or a quick dinner. I'm not gonna have the time to go to SF (which I know fairly well). If SJ pure chain resturant 'burban hell?Quote:

Ty beat me to it. Nola's is a GREAT recommendation if you like cajun food. Great wine list too. Also, Santa Cruz Ave in Menlo Park is pretty cool with ritzy restaurants. Wild Hare isn't bad. Menlo isn't far from downtown Palo Alto.Quote:

Go to Santana Row. Tons of shops, good places to eat with outdoor seating, coffee shops with wi-fi, movie theatres (including indie ones), and the Winchester Mystery House across the street. Its also across from a huge mall called Valley Fair and off of Steven's Creek Boulevard where you could test drive almost any car you could possibly imagine.
In Sunnyvale, you could hit Murphy Street, lots of bars etc.
or like Ron said, drive to Palo Alto only about 12 miles away.
I´ve never heard cool used in a phrase with downtown Palo Alto, Menlo Park or Santana Row before. If you like manufactured, overpriced restauraunts with completely fake ambiance I suppose they are cool.
Half moon bay isn´t bad, Santa Cruz is better, and only a half hour drive from San Jose. Go after the work day, walk along west cliff, chill.
There are some excellent restaurants in the area, they're just scattered widely amidst the Applebee's and Chili's. Nightlife is meh: if you want that, go to SF.
In Palo Alto, Mango Cafe (behind the Borders on University Ave) is a must-eat if you have any pretense to enjoying spicy food. Jerk chicken, curried goat...mmm...
In Mountain View, Masa's on San Antonio has the best sushi in the area, reasonably priced. Sit at the bar and ask the chef what's good -- they'll hook you up.
In San Jose, there are a bunch of great cheap places to eat:
The Falafel Drive-In on Stevens Creek has absolutely killer falafel and hummus. Gojo is a great Ethiopian joint just down Stevens Creek.
In Santa Clara, Su's Mongolian BBQ (on El Camino near SCSU) is the hook-up.
13th Street south of 101 is the Mexican main street, featuring a good taqueria every 10 feet. El Caminito is the best all-around, but the Birrieria is the best if you like goat.
Milpitas is a hole, but Thai House/Sala Thai on Calaveras has the best Pad Thai anywhere.
Plenty more options but I'm tired.
Call in sick for a day, and go skiing at alpine meadows.
Check out the San Jose Wendy's. I hear their Finger Chili is criminally delicious.
I used to go to the Pink Poodle while on layover in San Jose. The talent was pretty good 7 or 8 years ago…not sure about now.
Second on the Falafel Drive-in recc too.
