CHAMONIX Job Offer: Ski Tech evenings only - Winter 14/15

Hey,

Anyone here on TGR looking to spend next winter in Chamonix?

We've got 2 jobs on offer for our ski rental shop 'Local CHX'.

About us - We're an independent ski and snowboard rental shop specialising in the highest level of customer service, chalet delivery, avalanche safety, freeride and touring equipment.

Job 1: Ski Tech - Evenings only

We're looking for an EXPERIENCED ski tech who can work evenings to quickly batch service skis and boards to a good standard. This is a very sweet job for the right person!

Furthermore as this is an after shop hours role we can pay cash in hand - I know most of you guys on TGR are US or Canadian so this could work well with just a holiday visa or whatever.

Job 2: Shop Assistant/Delivery Driver

The role will include the day to day running of the shop, boot fitting & ski fitting both in shop and in chalets, telephone enquiries and email & web order processing.

This will be a contracted job so will require a UK or French work visa. Furthermore you must be able to drive a manual vehicle legally in the UK & France.

Us guys at Local CHX are super keen freeriders, tourers and ski mountaineers. Most importantly we're looking for a good hardworking attitude and excellent customer service skills; but enthusiastic and experienced skiers/boarders are a great bonus!

Some say the belt waxer makes an excellent pillow when combined with the work bench..

So in all honesty the current workshop web page is mainly there for show as an accessory as such to the online rental booking system. In practice we rarely serviced skis outside of our own rental fleet and when we did we tended to charge a lot less than what's advertised on the site (and obviously less than the other Cham shops with stone grinders and automated Wintersteigers).

The workshop setup is relatively basic - beyond hand tuning tools, we have a belt waxer, an edger and a belt grinder. Perfectly adequate for rental servicing. That said we'd be open to suggestions from the future ski tech for any extra cost effective servicing equipment.

So to elaborate more on the ski tech role: It would be from around 8pm to 10pm (more/less depending on the time of year). Within these hours the tech would be expected to solely focus on servicing our own fleet. Outside of these paid hours there's the potential option of the tech doing their own 'freelance' servicing in the workshop and keeping the bulk of the profit from that. This however would need further discussion.

I have passed this onto my non mag mate Kev. He is a Canadian but coming to Cham this winter, been a tech for 2 seasons now, good fella. I told him to email you....and if your getting desperate that shop assistant/driver job is perfect for me. Tell angus that he should be ok with hiring mates and that I'm still looking for something.

hand tuning rental's at night, that sounds ideal, will there be plenty of douchy frenchmen, looking down their long nose's at me?

Thanks for giving Kev the heads up Rob, he's got in touch and we're giving him an interview next week. Haha I dunno what Angus' current status is on hiring mates, but I'll tell him you're keen!
