I work in the Yellowstone club for the summer part time. Not for the YC however. Property management, but caretake a number of places. I do walkthroughs/inspections every 2 weeks, set-up arrivals (replace light bulbs, check hot tubs, make sure everything works, etc.), departures (turn off lights after folks leave, shut blinds, turn down heat/AC, clean out fridge..score!), take out left over trash, clean patios, stash patio furniture, etc. Pretty easy, but every situation is different. Lots of setting up service calls for stuff I can't fix, troubleshooting overly complicated A/V systems, etc.
Besides the food the biggest score of the summer was going through the lost and found stash our company has had for years, amazing the stuff people leave behind.
Yeah, I was one. There was no job description. He said, "are you a hippie, you look like one?" I replied that I was just a skier. He gave me his house. I had to ski down to the lift. He showed up once in the two years that I lived there. He just wanted someone there in case...well in this case...if an avi hit his house...which it did. I was not paid, just free rent.
Depends on the situation.
I have friends who have done the live in Caretaker deal and it has worked out well.
Others, the client was so needy and demanding it wasn't worth the free/reduced rent.
