So on the NOAA long range predictions, Cliff Mass had an interesting analysis:

In sum: the NOAA long range forecasts are not very accurate.
That said, what are the predictions, indicators, trends or tea leaves?
Isn't the big El Nino dwindling?
I like black tea with hints of cinnamon and citrus. Murky.

What does el nino usually do with Haines as far as snow goes?
That didn't exactly hold true last season. I was up in AK in April and it was terrible. Alyeska had one of their worst seasons ever.Quote:

My friend the groomer is cautiously optimistic based on the wet summer and fall we've had. He notes that wet summers are usually followed by big winters.
A LANL scientist predicted that the southwest for the next 5 years will be moist, because of some oscillation in the Indian ocean. I cannot now find the link. That was last year, and if thgis past summer is any indication, he was pretty spot on.
When was the last big one for the SW? 2006? 2008? One of those years was huDge.

2005 was enormous. IIRC, that was the year of that huge slide at Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard that ripped the kid from the lift.
