Digital camera (non slr)

What's the best digital camera for talking sports photos???-skiing,skateboarding,etc(not slr, because they're too big,+I wouldn't know what to do with half of the manual controls + I want something compact) . Also when picking a camera for mostly action shots , what should I be looking for #'s of megapixel's or what????
Any advice would be appreciated, as I know knothing about cameras.

- I may have been able to find a bit of info using search but technology moves pretty fast these days and I would appreciate current up to date info.+There's lots of people on here who take killer pics who wouldn't mind sharing info. Thanks.

The 28mm (equivalent) wide angle is nice, the picture quality seems very good, and it has full aperture/shutter priority, manual, the usual set of portraint/landscape/sports programs, etc. It can take RAW images, can over/underexpose the flash independent of ambient light, etc. If you pre-focus, there is very little shutter lag, but even in "high" continuous mode, it only takes 2 fps. The S70 feels solid, and the big lens cover means you don't need a bag for it when you ski with it in your pocket. All in all: Very much packed into a compact body.

I bought it with two Lexar 80X 1GB cards and an extra NB-2LH battery and paid about USD 700. The camera alone is about $400.

Check out the Olympus E-100 RS , it's nearly 5 years old but it has been heralded as the best action/sports camera ever. 15 fps !!! and 10x optical zoom w/ image stability. Don't let the 1.3 megapixels fool you, the lens is top notch and it takes sharp photos as long as light is ample (anything outdoors).

My dad picked one up off ebay for $300. I know GT40 has posted multitudes of awesome skiing pics using that same camera model. It's a niche camera but those that have one swear by them.

Edit: Reading comprehension no good. The E-100rs is pretty good sized, you can't stuff it in a pocket.

Nice camera for the bucks. Holds out some crashes, not to big. Average 5MP photos for a camera in that size.
WATERPROOF up to 2m. Has no probs in those snowy days with the display.

I reckon you'll want something with a decent zoom and a fast continuous mode for shooting sequences of photos (for a compact digicam).

This is truely an excellent camera. It'll fit in a jacket pocket, starts quickly, can take a lot of knocks, takes good, quick sequences and photos blow up to A4 size no worries. It also has an image stabilizer that removes the effect of shaking hands. You'll find as the pixel count goes up, the speed of sequential shots slows down.
The Olumpus Stikki mentioned is an excellent camera (for web publishing) but if you want to print the images larger than normal photo size it might not cut the mustard.

do a search........there is a TON of stuff on digital cameras floating around............my vote goes for the Sony Cybershot 5.1 MP little guy though.....

HAs anything newer come out that rivals the E-100RS' continuous drive mode? Not talking high end SLRs.
