Vibes to those involved, hope the woman pulls through. Super common, easily accessed zone, lucky there weren't more involved.
Terrible news for a small town.

that's really too bad. and agreed, one of the more popular areas/runs at the pass that sees a decent amount of regular up & down traffic.
hope she makes it.
skied that area last winter, beauty, but definitely some areas to be aware of. Condolences to family and friends.
they released the guy's name

i didn't know him, but i do know the other gal that ended up in hospital. heard through the grapevine that she should be OK though. never cool when something like this happens, especially when it's pretty much a highway up and down that mountain most of the winter.
vibes to the family/friends of the guy who didn't make it.
Here's the incident report on the CAC website: http://www.avalanche.ca/cac/library/...-database/view (you might have to search for it)
"Group of 4 backcountry skiing. 2 started skiing slope. 3rd member of group started down the slope and triggered a size 2.5 slab avalanche. Crown depth 100 cm. Failed on surface hoar/crust/facet layer (Jan 29th). Avalanche was about 30 m wide and ran about 700 m. The female victim was quickly wrapped around a tree near the top of the slope. The second male was carried by the avalanche through trees and over small rock bands. Neither were buried. The male victim had significant injuries. The male who triggered the avalanche was not caught or buried by the slide."
Here;s the photo included with the report. I did some Photoshop work to increase the contrast.

I won't cast judgement because I can't honestly say I wouldn't have skied that slope on that day. The only thing I can say is I would have made sure we leap-frogged each other from safe zone to safe zone, but the report doesn't say if that's what they were doing or not.
how is the girl doing? is she out of the woods so to speak ...
