Clean through the top tube, the down tube is kinked and 75% through. The original break just kinked both tubes, the top tube broke through on the hikeout off of Galbraith Mt.
It makes me sad in my pants, but it can be replaced at least.

It happened on woopsie woodle right before it lets out onto the gravel connector road. I was just going down a short descent, took the high side of the trail, and ran right the frick into a stump that must have jumped out of the woods 10ft to get in my path. I basically dead on t-boned the thing and the fork folded back up underneath my frame. I am running Rhyno Lites and a Marzocchi fork so given the situation, it wasn't a suprise to me that the thin walled Columbus tubing was the weak link in that equation.
I am in the process of contacting Cove about their crash replacement policy, so we'll see how that goes.
When did you do that? Aren't you still rehabbing the knee? A bit early to be t-boning stumps, no?
I did it yesterday. The knee is strong. At my last PT/Doc visit (about 5 weeks ago) I was more or less cleared to start getting the activity level back to normal. I worked on some strength since then and yesterday was my first "real" off road ride. No problem whatsoever except my lungs and overall climbing legs aren't all there yet from lack of use.
I guess to put it in the more tangible terms of those on this board, if there was any snow in the PNW, I could easily be cruising around on groomers by now. Or for another type of hash mark, at that last visit my doc said if I was playing any sort of competitive soccer (college, semi-pro) I would be able to start practicing with my team at medium contact.
My PT in particular wants everyone to be safe, but is perfectly comfortable with letting those who he thinks are ready to start really pushing their limits. Unfortunately I found my bike's limit, not mine. Doh!

Wow, Scoob, Good on ya! I guess I would be riding singletrack if there weren't snow on the ground out here, but I know for damn sure I wouldn't be breaking any bikes :eek: :eek: . Way to get after it!
That's the funny thing about the crash, it certainly wasn't spectacular at all. I wasn't hucking or jumping or anything beyond normal singletrack riding.
I'm scheduled to see my PT again in the next week or so, and the funny thing is that he will just laugh at me because I don't have an mtb to ride now that the weather is really breaking. (he rides too)
Was there a moment of panic, like "don't let me land wrong and fuck up my knee again!"? followed by a "whew!" I still can't believe how much more aggressive your docs are than mine. I feel like I'm breaking curfiew every time I push the envelope a little. Sorry 'bout the no bike sitch, but I'm sure you'll get it replaced quick. I've heard good things about Cove, but then again my sources are unreliable. Good luck.
I've ridden a few mellow doubletrack rides in the last month or so to build up confidence in my knee, this was the first real, possibly sketchy singletrack ride, but it went really well, and I never thought about the knee unless it was on one of the long climbs up and I was just realizing how out of riding shape I am. Now that I think about it, it would have to be a pretty funky crash or fall to really mess up the knee again though. I know AG blew her knee this last time riding, but I still don't think it's that common for bikers. Skiing will be another mental hurdle all together though.
I am really happy with my doc and PT, they've been really realistic and really supportive in getting me back doing what I want to be doing.

That's true, but no matter how strong you feel, as I understand it, at 4 mos. out the graft itself is actually weaker (softer) than it has been. So while your strengthened quad offers some protection, your ability to be active makes you vulnerable. Not trying to preach. You know your body. Just one gimp lookin' out for another. I'll be hittin' singletrack as soon as the snow melts :biggrin: . I see my doc tomorro, and I'm not hearin' any more of this take it easy b.s.Quote:

That is a pretty quick and easy repair, Scoob. Call a framebuilder and it can be repaired, re-welded and re-aligned to better than new condition.

Quick and easy, yes, but it's not exactly an IF or some frame that would be worth salvaging, and it would take some cash and shipping time. I am still trying to work out the details of Cove's crash replacement policy, and once I do it's a 2hr car ride up to their shop in Vancouver for a new frame. We'll see. I'm going to sign off on this issue for now until I get it rectified. I'll give an updated when available, but I know the Cove guys will stand by their stuff.Quote:
