The Official Great Pacific Octopus Thread

Seems like the Praxis GPO rates a thread of its own.

I skied the 187 mounted on the mark in a few inches of new over variable nasty crust, and a few pockets of windblown goodness, at Stevens yesterday. Admittedly, my skill level is about as far from Drew and Lars and crew as you can get and still claim to ski, but I really like the GPO a ton. It handled the crappy stuff well. Felt floatier than it should have buoying my 210 pounds or so in the soft stuff. Interesting combo of slarvy with a very engage-able edge -- whichever you want. Need more time on it to compare and contrast in any detail - but I'm stoked.

FWIW - I suggest *not* detuning this ski until you get some time on it "as shipped". I don't know if it is the design, the tune, or the conditions I skied, but my first impression is that this ski will not need the ritual Praxis detune. Obviously I may change my mind, but that is my strong first impression.

I'm definitely curious about others' reactions...

I asked Jim S about mount since I will mount my 192 soon and this is what he said

I mounted on the dimple. They felt to far foward for me just a bit. I looked at them compared to my 189 and 187 Rx Pow and Concept and I think I'm going to move them back 1 cm or 1.5 cm. (1cm might be too close old holes).

Keith skis them on the dimple as does Kevin.
Tabke mounted +1 from the dimple.

I was already leaning to -1 and this provides a second point of interest.

The mount point on GPO is -1 compared to my Squad 7. Shape is very similar (also to my Lhasa Fat)

I hope SupreChicken and I can write a review of (chicken's) carbon 192 GPO vs (my) 191 Billy Goat after we have some time to ski them back-to-back.

The weight and ever-nebulous "feel" will be different, but everything else seems pretty similar on paper.

Saw you up on the mountain with them but never got a chance to say "hey" (assuming you're the dude decked out in tecnicolor Norrona). Would love to check 'em out more closely, they looked pretty sweet.

new rockered 196 Lhasa pow vs 192 GPO vs Wailer 112 RPC would be an interesting comparison, i think.

I mounted 192 on the line/dimple and detuned to contact points. The latter seems perfect. Really fun in the shallow pow, chopped up crud, and carve well. Very fast turning but not at all hooky.

I might move back 1 or 1.5 cm but I'll ride them again this week before I drill another set of holes.

GPO has considerable tip rocker compared to the Rx Pow.

I am def a little surprised on how forward the mount is. May be the pic, but thought this ski would have more of a trad mount. The kick in the balls is I was just going to order 193 MVPs, but now I think 192 GPOs will be added as well. Def need to talk to Keith though as I need to figure out the flex. Thinking med for MVPs and my for GPOs. Thanks for throwing the pics up. Have been an ON3P fan for a while, but really really like the new Praxis!

I think I'm retarded.

I feel like the mount is too far forward for me. But visually they look like they have a lot of tip.I took them to a shop to remount - x cm and they looked at me like I was nuts. They measured tip and tail and suggested I ski them some more before re-drilling.

I dunno.

Jim S, I dont know why but I did check out the link that someone posted showing Tabke in Kirkwood and the GPO... For some reason I did not notice it when I looked at it, but sure as shit his mount is more forward than what I would have thought... Never ever thought I would see a "chargy" ski mounted so far forward... Holy shit am I digging the boards Praxis is putting out...! Def looking forward to more reviews.. Even with 191 Billys in my quiver I think I may have to have some serious overlap with these...! And I say go with your shop recommendations until you get more time on them... Truly appreciate you taking it for the team figuring this shit out...

I find most of my mounts compared to the recommended mount point that Keith recommends is usually about 1cm back... it's all about personal preference and how neutral you ski.

How would you compare the GPOs to your Concepts? I was going to upgrade my 177 Concepts with the 187s, now I'm very conflicted with the release of the GPOs lol. The one thing i don't want to give up is the versatility of the concepts.

I'm thinking of these in the 183. I generally like light and poppy skis. Would the GPO in a medium flex fit the bill for a light, fun powder ski, with post 10am versatility? Can anyone compare them to other skis, like a Bibby, JJ, on the extreme end, a Rocker2 122?

I further detuned the tips a little bit past the contact points and now they are great. 
