Drift ghost

We put that under the tree for my son this yr and we got a chance to try it out yesterday mtn biking. It's compact with many new features compared to our old Stealth HD170. Thankfully the mount is still the same, so all of our accessories fit the new camera...which is nice! I still think their mounting system is the best and most bomber. The 'tag/loop' feature seems pretty sweet...

As much as I prefer a still shot, these cams have their place and the stills you can pull from them are not bad and getting better.

the 10 shots per second x 5 seconds in Photoburst mode is my favorite feature.

This camera blows the comp away. 2-way remote is clutch as well. (without needing a smart phone to control your device) NOTE: 3 hour battery comes standard!

I think the HD 3 Black edition tested the best out of all of them, actually.

I've heard multiple separate accounts of people losing all of their footage off of their Drifts due to corrupted files and SD cards. Not sure if that's user error, Drift related or some combo, but I haven't really ever heard of that happening on GoPros or Contours. That makes me extremely hesitant to switch over in general.

^I've had a HD170 for a couple-few (memory is gone!) years now and have never had an issue with files. They do recommend a specific class card for the 170.

I have read good things about the HD black also, but I wouldn't buy it for two reasons. Where I ski I'd rip that thing off on the first run and I think those toasters make you look like the biggest jong on the hill (no offense to anyone with one :biggrin: jong! :fm:) I just like stealth low key look of Drift or Contour and the vid is plenty good enough.

I've never lost footage from a Drift. As long as you format the card in camera, you should be fine.

The new Ghost is tits. The two-way remote is the most useful thing to happen to helmet cams since helmet cams. Also loving photo-burst and multiple FOV options. Should have a video review coming soon, just trying to find a bluebird day in CO to get the last bit of footage (shouldn't be that hard, but somehow is).

Problem solved with this new battery and enclosure. Longest life battery in it's class.

The audio (for a POV cam) is exceptional. In this video I was testing these wind shields that are just 3M doughnut hole stickers with felt or synthetic fur as covers. The results were awesome as you can hear all the talking, grunts, sticks poping, but no harsh wind noise.

Gone Skiing, where is that camera mounted? Your footage looks pretty smooth. I just got a Ghost and tried it out in chopped conditions and even though the quality is great, my footage is shaky as shit! WTF? I'm kinda disappointed. The camera is solidly helmet mounted on top but the angle would be very slightly higher than what you have in the video above. I used to use a goggle mounted POV 1.5 and although the image quality was crap, the footage was nowhere near as shaky. Does the goggle band give the camera a bit of suspension? The Ghost seems way too heavy to be effectively mounted on the goggle strap.

Shooting at 1080 @ 30fps - 170fov

My experience is that choppy conditions can be hard with any POV to get clean, non-jittery footage. GS's footage is quite nice...what type of mount is being used?

I just use the standard curved helmet mount on top of my helmet teletubby style. My helmet is a Smith with a Roc-loc type system to tighten it around my head, if the conditions are especially choppy I sometimes will tighten that to stabilize the helmet. Other than that, I find bluebird scenes are way easier to watch and never seem as choppy as storm scenes. I really like the helmet mount, not a fan of the goggle mount. It works OK if you crank your goggle strap down, but its still shaky and it always feels like its about to fall off, unless you're skiing perfectly smooth pow.

Here is a quick test of 1080p mode with auto WB. Note the ProTune that GoPro uses is cool and the results are tits, but it doubles the SD card usage and chews through the batteries. Plus it takes a considerable amount of time to process, unless you just import and use auto-levels. The battery time the the Black consumed in ProTune/RAW mode was less than 15 minutes for me in 5 degree weather. USELESS!
