Back from MT
first ever trip to MT is in the books. A nice 10 day escape with my ladyfriend and her parents. Three days floating the Koontenai, then explored GNP for the remainder. Kootenai was fun, very strong trouts for their size and happy to rise to hoppers throughout the day, some caddis in the evenings. The fabled wind did blow though, gusts to 40 made things interesting at times on the second day, but the 8'/5wt cane handled it well enough. GNP sure is a big place, couple of 8hr hikes up to passes and glaciers and a shorter effort on Friday before commuting back to Kalispell left us perfectly tired enough to truly enjoy some fine local brews. No fishing in the park though, just didn't have the energy after the daylong exploring. Awesome trip, hope to explore more some point down the road.
Thanks to all for the advice offered thru the year, much appreciated.

That's my favorite part of the country. The Koot is an incredible river. Overlooked by most who come to visit or live in the northern Rockies. The beauty of the river is good enough for me to put it in my top angling rivers. The trout are gorgeous and although most aren't the 18"ers the rest of the state is known for, they do fight well. There are some monsters in that river too. They don't eat on the surface much and the number of them is few and far btwn but some of the largest trout in the state are caught on that river....down deep.
Awesome pics! Looks like a fun trip.

Great pictures! The B&Ws are Ansel-esque. I have never been to Montana - I need to put it on the short list for next summer.
