Monument to Iceman

20,000 posts, two near death experiences and a penchant for delivering consistently good drivel make this man, seriously monument worthy. Seems I'm not the only one who feels that way and a design is already being proposed.

I love this idea and think it works on several levels. I remember seeing it as a six year old (back in the 60's :eek:) and then a week before it fell. Ever since, NH has not been the same, so what better way to bring back the memory, the excitement and last but not least, the tourists.

Note the interior tunnel, waterfall and viewing levels. Imagine how cool it would look at night, all abuzz and glowing.... just like the real Iceman.

I drove by there a couple weeks ago, it was weird not having the Old Man up there still. We can rebuild it....better, stronger than before. The six-million dollar iceman.

I went to college no more than 30-40 miles southwest of there as the crow flies. Sometimes we would take long weekends from studying and end up hiking near Franconia Notch or skiing at Cannon Mtn...and it was always reasurring to go to that one spot and look up at the old man and know he was still there.

I talked to one of my professors there (now retired but still an avid hiker) about 5 years ago and he was lamenting about it not being the same in the White Mtns with the 'Old Man' gone. I had no idea who he was talking about and didn't ask.

Now I do.

Of all the reasons, this one is the dumbest to wish this not to happen.

This wasn't that big of a issue when it was already there.

Now the whole "Mt Rushmore" aspect of it is a little off putting, but traffic? Thats a pretty soy excuse.

That's about what they are spending for a lame "memorial" to the original by the road. The estimated cost for this "replacement" is closer to 50M. I say we start a collection.

Buttah, whatta you care... you might as well be in Vermont. I think this would be pretty cool. I see the kitchy argument, but it would fit right in with NH's mo. Maybe Storyland (one of my favorite places evah) would foot the bill?!

First thing I thought of when I read this title- how would you keep it from melting in the warmer summer months.

VT has it's fair amount of kitsch.
Santa's Land is just down the road.
i think of NH as home to forty-eight 4000' peaks with a historic seacoast.
a lakes region that stands alone in it's awesomeness.
and a fertile and beautiful valley that is home to an Ivy league school with a medical facility that is easily the best in northern NE.
this state will never replace the old man, with a cheesy tourist trap on that scale.
i like VT, but i love NH.

You forgot the cheap, tax free booze.
