I think it's called an avulsion fracture. I think in these cases they try and do the surgery as soon as possible. Don't hold me to that though.

Skiing a groomer with my four year old. Night skiing, slipped out on super hard pack, dynafit binding didn't release. Snap, severe pain. Looks like the MRI shows a more typical acl/mcl. Surgery Wednesday.
Actually rather have this happen now and not miss too much of cycling season....

My knee finally healed.
I had a buddy that did something similar, piece of bone pulled away from tibia I think. Doc made him wait something like 6 weeks for the bone to mend before replacing the ACL (hamstring graft).
Mine was a clean ACL tear with a minor meniscus tear to boot.
Surgery was on Jan. 4 and I too am looking forward to bike (bicycle) season.
Splat, I was bored the other day and so ordered some orange FKS's to go with those purdy black/carbon Lhasas! As I mentioned earlier, the review is going to be somewhat delayed.
I'm pretty sure I'd have done my ACL no matter what binding I was in (I was in salomons), but I'm telling myself the turntable heel will be "safer" for my new graft. I also considered the knee binding, but always found looks to give a nice clean release without the slight "tug" before release that I've experienced with salomons. I guess I just thought the knee binding was too much of an unknown.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, just curious what other people's thoughts are on some of the binding options out there as far as protecting knees.

I am happy I don't seem to have the bone issue after all.
Had this happen to my patellar tendon, which is apparently pretty rare. Took the docs 1.5 years to diagnose because the bone shard never showed up on the scan. No experience with the acl, but I had a patellar tendon debridement that ended up being somewhat more serious because they had to take out the shard of bone that they didn't know was in there. Since then, it's been doing better, but I could stand to work it out a bit more regularly (this has been somewhat inhibited by other injuries). The stronger my knee gets, the better it feels.
Oh, and I loved my doctor (he also did my hip surgery) at HSS in NYC. I went to a different doctor in Seattle (highly recommended by a friend) who said there was nothing they could do for me. So don't give up if the scan shows nothing and the doc isn't skilled enough to operate.
Long story short: don't trust the scan completely if you know something is wrong with your knee. And afterward surgery, get it fucking strong again.
You probably already know all that, but thought I'd say it anyway. Vibes dude.
The above injury occurred on my first run with Marker Dukes after running a turntable for years. Granted, there was a large front flip involved, but I landed it and skied away. It probably had nothing to do with the binding at all, but I'm gonna stick to my trusty turntables for any risky aerial feats from now on.Quote:

rideit, glad you didn't have the bone issue. It's bad enough getting broken, it sucks worse when you have to wait to get fixed! I broke myself Dec. 2 but waited until my deductible reset to have surgery on Jan. 4. It's not like I was missing anything, and I really got to focus on getting the leg as strong as possible pre-surgery, but waiting was frustrating to say the least and just gave me more opportunity to freak myself out over all the things that could possibly go wrong during sugery. I knew that there really wasn't a lot that could go wrong, but I have a vivid imagination and lets just say there was a lot of blood involved... and clown masks.... brrrrrr!
