Q for the Knee Experts

For the last few years I've had knee pain whenever I ski for a few days at a time. The knee doesn't hurt while skiing, it's always afterward. It started out just being sore for a few days when I got back to work and sat for extended periods, but it's gotten worse lately. This year the pain was mainly toward the inside of my kneecap on the lower side, but the last few days I've also had pain on the outside of my knee. Most of the time there's little or no pain, but if I twist while putting weight on the knees, or sometimes just while walking (when the knee if fully extended), I'll get a sudden sharp pain and the feeling of loss of support in the knee. I've never really notice much if any swelling.

Any guesses on what the injury is? Any suggestions on treatment other than rest and ice?

Patellar tendinitis?

Just tendinitis. Do you do any weight training? Swimming can make that joint pretty loose. I find sitting leg extensions tighten up my knee and relieve that type of pain. Lite weight high repetition.

Not much. I do some dry land training, but the only thing I ever do for legs is box jumps.

Leg extensions extensions help me. High reps and low weight to get a good burn going.

I'll give it a try. I do have a weight bench with a leg attachment.

Let me know how if it helps.

Also aductor and abductor exercises help a lot (those machines at the gym that chicks use where you squeeze your thighs/knees together or push them out).

Could be tendinitis or minor damage to cartilage that's getting pinched.

Swimming helps me.

dude did it hurt when the snow was cold n dry or does the mank make it worse? do fast chattering ice runs bum it out, but smooth cut groomers feel fine? if this is you your going to be just fine.
my knees hurt yesterday in the heavy but were fine this am in the dry. as soon as the snow set up the brakes were applied to preserve the joints.
