Pieps dsp questions
New beacon in the house! A bit confused about some features. The manual display legend shows it has temp, alt, and compass, but on beaconreviews.com it says those are only on the advanced. The manual doesn't tell you how to get to those features. I can't figure out what the option button does, in search it brings up an F with dashes. Doing that near my analog beacon I get F270 and a mtn icon, but if that's the check frequency drift feature, shouldn't it be closer to 457... or else, my old beacon is fucked, but the dsp still finds it.
Pressing any of the buttons in send brings up the little boxy icons. Those icons are for marking, so not sure why they are coming up then/what they mean.
The manual doesn't talk about this and I can't find it online. It's version 8.2.

huh, that's a different manual than that one that came with it. It's not mine and I was told that the online manual was checked, and I didn't double check. So the temp etc is only in the option pack. I don't see anything about the F270 though but I can't get it to do it again.
I just turned it on to check out stuff and it's flashing 500 in search with another beacon transmitting nearby.
eta- I found this. http://beaconreviews.com/transceivers/Frequency.asp: "The Pieps DSP has a feature wherein it does not normally search outside of the ±80 Hz range when first entering the search mode, but if you press the scan button (labeled either "?" or "(((") button it will scan ±500 Hz for several seconds. If it finds a beacon, it will lock onto it while flashing "500" in the display. "
eata- It says that "A detection of defective beacons is done by displaying a flashing '500' after the scan. In this case the actual bandwidth used is maintained at ±500 Hz. " here http://www.patrollersupply.com/snow_...dsp_beacon.asp
I'm confused. It's been the same beacon we're searching for all along but the 500 means it (the old analog) is defective?. When I scan the analog, it shows no drift, but then it's sometimes giving me the 500 and sometimes it isn't?

All I can say about the icons, is on start up, they are all there, no matter smart or not. Not sure why.
Directions are really easy to use, IMO. I downloaded the manual from Pieps, as mine did not come with one.
