Info Request: ESA Changes

Writing a speach about recent and proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act for a class and I want to make sure I have my bases covered. Does anyone have info pertinant to this issue? I'm not looking for someone to do research for me, I am just looking for some different perspectives on the topic.

Check out the House Resources Committee, chaired by Richard Pombo (R-CA). The committee has passed two bills, HR 1662, the Endangered Species Data Quality Act, and H.R. 2933, the Critical Habitat Reform Act. These bills are designed to undermine fundamental elements of the ESA—using the best available science and safeguarding habitat necessary for the survival of a species. To date, these resolutions have not become law.

You might want to check out the recent changes to viable populations provision of the National Forest Management Act.

Thanks GC, I was looking for those numbers....newspapers are really good at saying "the GOP has proposed changes to the ESA" but not providing the actual bill numbers. Go figure.


There were some shady things going on in the last 4 years, I can't imagine what the next 4 will be like.

Look for the courts to be packed with extremist judges, our environmental laws dismantled, and the country to be in a state of perpetual war. Fuck it, I’m going to Wall-Mart.
