this crossed my internets awhile back and the principle seems to be an improvement on the old tie-a-colored-string-to-you-and-dangle-it-in-avi-terrain. But in inflates.
No replacement for everything else one could put in the arsenal but it does look interesting...
Anyone ever see one of these in use? Tested it yet? Hate the idea? Have other stuff to say about unrelated things?..

Between stuffing an avalung in your mouth, pulling the airbag ripcord, throwing out orange pillows, swimming, and discarding poles/skis, etc. the list of shit to do whilst caught in an avalanche is approaching ridiculous.
Don't forget to create an airpocket after you give up swimming.
I'm going to invent a small canister filled with Magic Dye Gas* that causes the snow to change color and marks where you are buried. It is fool proof. Triggering is by remote control. Your buddies just dial in your unit number, hit the button then wait for a patch of snow in the slide path to turn green.
* Magic Dye Gas is highly toxic and should not be used in confined spaces with poor ventilation.

It's similar to those inflating pylons, I guess...but maybe better. Because those are just like a great big auto-inflate flaoting key-fob that they sell at boating stores.
At any rate, it will work better than those the old-fashioned, multi-colored strings that someone had mentioned. Those often simply get buried in snow. I think they should increase the cord length, though. 5 meters (16.4 feet) just doesn't seem long enough. I'd go with 10 meters.
The good thing about these things is no battery required!
They should really have a video on their website, though. Showing how it REALLY works.
Also...if it's strong parachute cord...after you activate it and it sends it's balloon out with that cord, HOW are you supposed to keep from getting wrapped up in it like a spider's meal as you swim and tumble????
I'd be worried about that aspect.
