Ost Schweiz Mags?

Hello to all my fellow mags and magettes! I'm just giving a shout out here from Eastern Swiss, trying to see who is out this way. I'm interested in trying to meet some fellow peeps for some recon missions this winter. I'd like to get up to the Glaurus and Urner alps for some exploration, and find some potential liness for touring/mountaineering this winter. If anyone is interested in meeting up for doing something like this, or just grabbing a beer in general, feel free to hit me up!

Also if anyone here has experience or info abou tthe Swiss Alpine Club, I'd love to hear more.

Can also give you info on the Swiss Alpine Club.. PM me... personally the club isn't my thing.. if you have wide long skis, it won't be yours either.. and if you are looking to ski/tour with people who can actually ski, it probably isn't yours either... (not sure about the Graubünden club, but Zurich certainly is like that)

I'm also from the eastern part, even though I'm currently in Lausanne. Will be back in January!
MMMh, I'm an SAC member, and I somewhat agree with skiinggirl, but I have to put it into perspective.

SAC and each sections tourleaders are doing a great job, but its not easy to find enough people with same skills to do advanced skitours. They are responsible for a whole groupe and therefore they have to be really really careful.
Mostly "classic european skitours" are offered, where hiking and reaching the peak is more important than skiing a specific line (in euroturns ;)). I claim that most of the leaders grew up with this style and on "spaghetti" skis...But I also claim that there is a young generation pushing for a change.
I lately read somewhere (sry can't remember where), that the SAC cultivates classic alpinism for the populace and is not interested in pushing-the-limits mountaineerers (like Ueli Steck). A good example is the current "SAC Expeditionsteam" project (http://www.sac-expeditionsteam.ch/).

If you're only interested in skiing, you should probably join another club. The SAC has a program throughout the whole year, and climbing and mountaineering in summer is lots of fun and there you can def. find an advanced level.

Join the SAC, and take part in some tours. When you've met some people organize tours in which you're interested in, but not offical SAC tours. Or become a leader and organize tours with focus on skiing lines rather than accessing summits.

If you're interested in discovering new lines, I would be def. in :).

The SwAC is thought for the populace of Switzerland, and this can be seen in offered tours: Trained but not professional tourguides (volounteers!) offer tours in summer (climbing, mountaineering, biking etc.) and winter (ski/snowboard, iceclimbing...) for everyone. Sometimes the tourdescription demand a certain skill-level, but mostly tours are for everyone and just "easy" tours. It's usually hard to find enough people with advanced skills.
Furthermore the tourguides are responsible for the whole groupe...if something happens, it's their fault, so they are extra carefull when they organize official tours.

a bit overs-simplyfied (I've met couple of SwACs with wide long skis) but I somewhat confirm what u wanna say:
The tours I've joined (or were advertised) followed the "classic european touring". They rather focused on hiking up and getting to the peak than skiing down/hike to ski specific lines.
A lot of tourguides are an "older" generation which grew up with "classic european touring".
Furthermore the SwAC promotes traditional mountaineering (incl. touring) and does not want to push limits/take extra risks (example article: http://backcountry.ch/index.php?opti...=85&Itemid=151)
Skiing specific lines with a random group includes certain risks to point back on the first two arguments (different skiing skills, responsibility).

I personally recommend the SwAC. You meet people and you can organize unofficial tours with them (skiing lines?!). You can join guided tours and learn continuously usefull things for the backcountry. If interested in climbing/mountaineering in summer, there are almost no limits for climbing tours aka advanced climbers.
What I miss is def. an advancement of the "new generation" of touring, which certainly can be done without taking high risks.
