E.C. gaper looking for some Tahoe help.

Flying in to lovely Sacramento Sunday evening. Renting a big-ass-truck to come up and ruin the snow for the locals Monday through Wednesday! Cant decide if well go to the North or South shore. Kirkwood is the destination if we head south, will the pass be open on Monday morning?

Is there a 24 hour Wall mart where I can buy a shovel somewhere on I80 between Sacramento and the lake? How about on 50? Do I need chains with a rental 4WD SUV or will the law let me pass?

Im new to the forum but wondering if and where we can find a few mags to make some turns? Were good skiers and would be happy to tag along...if were too slow just ditch us! Do I have permission to use the "change for a nickel" or do I have to go through some weird maggot hazing ritual first?
