Looking for a short-ish, higher rise stem

I recently picked up a bike to get my fiancee out on the trails with me and the fit is close, but not quite there. The bike's already got riser handlebars on it and the stem has a fair bit of rise to it as well. It's a crap no-name stem, but by my measurements it's about 80mm and 10 deg of rise.
I've done a bit of looking, but which manufacturers are producing reliable stems that I could use to bring the reach in a bit? I'm thinking 70mm length and maybe 15 deg or so of rise. That's probably not a combo that sounds ideal to many of you, but my girl is transitioning from an extremely upright fit on her hybrid bike so I'm trying to strike a happy medium.
So what's out there? The only options I found in quick searches were those goofy adjustable stems and stuff made my manufacturers I don't know or don't trust.

edit: oh, and it's gotta be an affordable option, too. The bike was dirt cheap so I'd rather not put a stem on there that costs almost as much as the rest of the bike.

Bontrager makes a ton of stems. They're not a brand that is on a lot of people's radar, being that they're a house brand for Trek; but I would encourage taking a look at them for stems - they have a ton of different fit options at reasonable prices. They made a SSR-level ($25) 70mm 10* stem, as well as a 70mm 25* stem. Adding or removing a spacer under the stem could put you exactly where you're looking for for height.

A step up to the Race Lite level ($60), and they have a 75mm 17* stem.


I'd suggest stopping by your local shop to see what they might have - when we do fittings for new bikes, we often end up swapping a stock length stem for another length/rise - which results in a few boxes of stems of various qualities & clamp sizes. Can't sell them as new - they're take-offs; making a great opportunity for someone to save relative to a new stem, and it gets a take-off off our hands.

I've got an Easton Vice, 31.8mm 65mm 10 degree of rise rolling around. Heavy, more DH piece. Truvativ had some lower rise shorter stems that were fairly light in the AKA line. Could you add some stack height to the steerer tube and use the correct length stem with a lower rise? 5-10 degree stuff is pretty prevalent if you could have a long enough steerer tube.

What's the clamp size on the Vice? Looking for 25.4 so I won't have to order new bars, too.
Weight's not too much of an issue. The stem currently on the bike weighs about 280gr while still managing to look light duty.


Good call on take-offs at the shop. One of the two in town carries Treks, so maybe they can hook me up.

Salsa Moto-Ace SUP come in a ton of sizes. I might even have an 80mm/15d one sitting around.

Specialized can be nice because their stems come with shims to adjust the angle. $45 will buy you a stem that ranges from 13 to 21 degrees.

However, you may need to find an old one to get 25.4... I think all the new ones are 31.8
