I got a new bike!! Need some insight from Reign X owners

Well here she is. Mostly from parts off my Enduro.

Med 2011 Reign SX

I am having trouble with the chain guide. The ISCG tabs are clocked weird as you know if you have one of these fine frames. Thats not even the worst of what I got going on right know though. My Atlas AM cranks are giving me hell. With the guide bolts ground down to nearly flush The inner chainring bolts still are grinding, this is with the crank (and BB) spaced out as far as I can. Any farther and tightening causes the BB to bind.

So the Blackspire stinger is our because I cant rotate it enough to get tension. Whats next? I don't think any of the the double guides will work with this crank on this frame since I have to space it out to far to clear. Right know I see only a few options. The first being put some Shimano cranks on there since they don't tighten down on the bearings instead the tighten to the shaft. My next option is go single up front... this is scaring me a bit because it has thinking I may need to go to 10 speed to get the 36t rear for climbing since this a do everything bike for me. Anyway what are you guys running up front to combat the clocked ISCG tab issues? Any insight or tips is greatly appreciated. Giant wasn't very helpful, well other than getting me the frame.

I think there is a ReignX specific thread over at Pink bike that talks about this.
The short version is, some cranks clear, others don't.
Short of the Shimano SLX being one that did, I don't remember the specific list.

I ran into the same problem when I built mine up except I was dealing with Truvative cranks.
I had installed a Stylo but got the result you are getting. No clearance between the inner chainring bolts and the guide.
BTW, I also have a BS Stinger. I just happened to have a set of Firex cranks as well, so I gave it a shot and it worked with just enough clearance. The difference was 2 ~ 3mm difference in the width of the BB shaft between the two cranks.

Running Truvativ AKA cranks, they clear with a solid grind. Assuming you have the ISCG03 stinger? Mine seems to have plenty of tension on the chain

Also the X0 this year is spec'd with a race face respond 24/36/bash with an Atlas Shiftguide, so that would probably work too.

FWIW i never dropped a chain a single time on my reign x, probably over 70 rides, and riding it like a dirt bike.

I just don't use the tabs and run the adapter. But I'm using a single ring guide. (MRP G2)

I have a 2010 ReignX too. Went with Shimano SLX crankset (the 2 ring with a bash model) and a BB mount Stinger. It is money. Dudes at Go-Ride pushed me this way, and I haven't looked back. I also ride it like a dirt bike, FWIW :wink:.

make sure you have your shims on your bb set up right...i dont know specifics about this bike, but it sounds like you arent running enough bb spacers. if your bb width is 73mm you need one soacer on the driveside, if its 68mm, you need 2 on driveside, 1 on non-drive.

2010/11 reign x's will be the golden age for sure. well sought after in 2012 with that absolutely rediculous new 1 1/4 standard.

looks like you got her. shimano cranks are way easier to take off and on for screwing with chainguides(nicer bb bearings too). if you do consider 1x 9. sram makes a 9sp 12-36. i think its sram. nice looking whip dude

It was the last frame Giant had, sold my old frame exactly at the right time. Totally drained the account getting her going so will either run her as pictured with no inner ring or go without the guide like marshal. Another week or two a new crankset will find its way on her. Sounds like a BB mount stinger might be the ticket.

I wish it was the case, Its actually the opposite issue to many spacers required to clear causing the BB to bind.

Went on my first ride today at Galbraith. Holy awesome, I only had the 36t ring on the front so pedaling was a grind, but the bike didn't bob at all. I was for sure this would be an issue with a coil in the rear. That being said this is a first for me, both rear coil over and a mini link bike (is that a real term???), so what the hell do I know. It took me 150-200 yards going down hill to feel comfortable and then it was like booom your flying... over and through stuff. I have never been so glued to the trail yet so comfortable jumping.

Its funny the coil Lyrik was a epiphany to me, I remember saying to myself: man I don't know if I can ride an air fork again. I have eye balled the float 36 dozens of times knowing I could shave a lot weight but the Lyrik just performs. I bought this frame with the intention of buying an air shock down the road for it and keeping the coil over around for shuttling and park riding. I know its only one ride but I may be "doomed" to riding dual coilers for while.

Awesome, glad you are loving it. I spray about mine all the time, but it really is a shredder for sure. So poppy off of jumps, corners great, and stays glued through the bumpy shit. I did a few laps on my favorite jumpy trail last night and ran intoa dude that had just gotten a new XO. He was totally overstoked about how awesome the bike was too.

Mine is set up all air (DHX Air on the back, Lyric 170 Air DH on teh front) and I love how it rides, but have always been curious about how a coil setup would feel. Since it is my XC bike though, I'll stay with the air setup and keep it as light as possible.

I noticed next years ReignX-s are on the internets today. I like the colors, but don't really get the new Giant headtube standard (1.5"bottom, 1.25"top). I would assume there will be headsets that will allow a regular 1.125" or standard tapered fork to be used though, so it shouldn't really be that big of a deal.
