Sierra Storm Watch
Been raining here in south SF Bay Area moderately for about 3 hours now (8:30 pm PST) and has finally washed months of dirt from my very dirty Subu. Whole solid fat band of precip on radar is moving west slowly and is already into the Sierra foothills. So the 10-18 inches forecast for the Tahoe by Reno NWS is looking pretty certain now without much chance of it being spotty as is sometimes the case. Pretty much average snow levels though so the high areas will do well. The whole central Sierra ought to get a good plastering base coat atop whats left from last week's Halloweener cold storm.
Like we finally will have a decent November ski season for once. Hard to believe.

Checked the weather discussions a minute ago, 9am Thursday morning. Last week's storm #2 above came through well to get a few resorts announcing openings. Its looking even better now for late November. All this week the storm due tomorrow has been expected to not be much, just clipping the Sierra with average snow levels. But now a day off, that is now changing as a colder pool of air came in to reinforce an evolving front. Storms that look big on the satellite a few days from the coast and are played up big by the media often come in weak by time they reach the coast as the cold pool dynamics get played out and the jet stream dips down and grabs hold. Storms that start evolving stronger just before they reach the coast may arrive as pleasant surprises.
Now. Forecasters hinting on a one-two punch with narrow modest precip with lower than average snow level Friday and then a colder system with more potential from the north following Saturday night. Yeah Thanksgiving dinner at the casinos is looking more probable than the slot machines. -dave
