TR: Wolf Creek 11/8 (X-post)

What an amazing opening weekend. Headed up this morning to find between 4-10 inches new on various parts of the mountain. Took a couple runs on Treasure chair and then went to look at the Waterfall Area when I noticed that the run right above Waterfall, leading over towards Alberta Lift was open. Fresh tracks most of the way down and then found, to my extreme delight that they were minutes away from opening Alberta. So I got like 5th chair of the season on that lift and skiied 2 1/2 pretty much totally untracked. Such a killer day. Nothing like spending most of first day of the season skiing light, fluffy pow.

Been there...done that...of course that was pre-Alberta chair when you had to earn the ridge by humping over Alberta peak from the top of treasure chair followed by the snocat tow out back to the base area. Damn I'm jealous.

Had that one year ago today (happy anniversary to me :D), 'cept it was 24" new on top of 60ish base for opening of Alberta - yeah. Wah - I be in st. louis today though.

Very nice. Definitely want to head down there as soon as the next dump comes. Hopefully they'll open Alberta Peak. How was the coverage up there?

Hey, check this out - from the Wolf Creek website:

Join Wolf Creek for the first Local Appreciation Day on Wednesday, November twelve, 2003. Lift tickets are twenty one dollars for adults and twelve dollars for children and seniors.

College Day is Sunday, November, 16th; College students with college photo ID can purchase lift ticket for $21.00.

And from the snow report:

Skies : Overcast and snowing.
Forecast : Continued snow showers.

Anyone thinking about Wednesday?

After passing three Sheriff's and two Staties, who had some poor bastard pulled over in a Subie doing a roadside at 8:25 in the mornign we pulled into the parking lot with four inches of fresh!!
Not a ton, but enough to get you a bit excited.

Storm11, I must have been right in front of you or just behind, we were over on Alberta right after opening. I couldn't believe how soft the stuff was, totaly untouched pow in the trees no face shots, but all of the 2.5 deep that you mentioned!

Went and Hiked to Montezuma's and had great coverage, still winblown on top so a bit more hiking than normal.
Skied far skiers right on Alberta Peak, great coverage, and really nice snow. Not many peoiple made it oput that far, and three boarders were headed back after looking down it.

Knife ridge opened late 2:45-3:00 and my legs were feeling it pretty well, so we decided to skip it, most of the chutes were still pretty rocky, with the exception of Horseshoe bowl.
We traversed over to below horseshoe via Coyote, and there wasn't many tracks but still a lot of fallen logs and various other deadfall.

From Simpatico to Shazam, it's sweet though, they did a little thining just days before opening, with the help of a Chinook Helicopter. Friend who patrolled said it was the wildest thing he's done over there.

All in all a great day, the pack is somewhere around 18% I was told, and is bonding to everything, great start to hopefully a great season.

what dude with Fate pants? There's about a million people around here who wear Fate pants. But if it's the dude that I know, he wears black pants with a black jacket and skis 1080's (real one of a kind huh?)

And SheRa, the coverage was sweet. Alberta peak had a fair amount of rocks showing, but it was still totally skiable. Everything under Alberta Lift was pretty good too, but plenty of stumps still poking through. Almost jacked my knee again cause I clipped one while it was still totally untracked. You should definately try to make it down, it's well worth the drive. Plus it's been snowing up there most of this afternoon and it's supposed to dump some more tomorrow.

Thanks, Storm11. My little trip feel through - the girl I wanted to go with is in OEC for two more weeks. After that we'll be stormchasing. :D

I was there Friday! Got to the parking lot at about 3 am, had to move for the plows at 7am. The snow was very nice and it was killer to make turns again. Watch for the rocks...if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. One more good dump and we are STYLIN'!!!!!

Oh... and hung-out with Scott Kennett (previous owner of Zudnick the dog) at Pagosa Hot Springs. Good people, good day.
