I'm 6'3" and about 190#s. Anyone my size skiing on these shorty skis?
The Iggy FFGS sound pretty friggin sweet with 132-104-118 dimensions, but they're so damn short! Same thing with the legend pros. Do I need to just sack up and get some balance? Or is this legitimately too short.
^^agreed, for most applications I don't see any reason that 185-186 should be too short, I'm 6'1 185 and I'm on a 184 (stockli, plenty of ski). On the flip side I used to ski 191's, both lengths used to great effect. If you're gonna be ripping in tight places or running gaper-gate GS (i.e. resort time) go w/ the 185 if on the other hand you are looking to nail BC bowls rock-star style, go w/ something longer. keep in mind, that for stability at speed, FIS GS guys are right about 188, go faster go longer. want more float go longer. Want a more manouverability, go shorter. The only problem that I can express after going to the shorter length is a feeling of precariousness in rapidly varying conditions (crust invisibly changing to windloaded drift=front somersault) of course I had this problem before too. On second thought ignore everything I just said and go demo a 185, see what you think.
Yesterday I skied sugarloaf with a fella who just moved back to maine from Jackson. He's got a bunch of iggies, and last time he was out he was testing the FFGS. After skiing on 190-200 iggies for years, he raved about how kick ass the shorter suckers were. Didnt loose the top speed, but gained manuverability. He was on 189 seth pistols for reference.
I'm 6'3" 225#'s and I've been rockin the 188's (g4, bros) and haven't had any problem with stability. My 190 explosivs feel too long in certain situations, and could definatly be shorter.
Most of your stability is coming from the flex of the ski, not the 5 cm (>2") difference in length. Just get them stiff as hell and you'll be fine.
Sometimes I ski on 180 Deep powders (130ish-117-125ish) and am 6'5'' 220-240# somewhere in there.
anyway first time on the 180 the fore-aft balance has to be worked out, esp when skiing untracked, that takes me about a run after that I am really dialed on them, then high speed is not a problem at all. They are super fun in trees and tight spots, and are much less work than the 190.. Also any more tech lines are a little easier since from the extra manuveribility.

Of course 185's are primo. As long as you are getting a fat ski with sidecut, which I'm sure you are considering where and how you ski, I'd say 185 is fine. I'm 6'2" at 193.56 and I've been rocking some 182 Kingswood twins on harder-pack days and they rock...at 116mm/ 86mm/ 106mm.
My Kingswood full twin fats being 134mm/ 114mm/ 124mm at 185 cm...and they feel BIG.
I thought Micah Black rocks JH on 185 B3's quite frequently. Since he is no one of consequence, maybe that's a bad comparison...Quote:

any ski thats longer than 190 and 100+ in the waist with a wood core should be nice and heavy (head and iggy, the pro not so much), so hopefully you don't have have bad and/or week knees. ibuprofin helps. :) you should be super stable on anything larger than 100 regardless of brand labels.
Try to demo different sizes if you can. I know it sounds obvious but it's what works best. In my case I tried a pair of Rossi B2s at 176 and 182 and found that the they were 2 completely different skis. The 176 sucked ass and the 182 rocked. The B2 182's ended up being the best ski that I tried all day and I ended up buying them.

especially, you ski kirkwood mostly right??? kind of some smaller less wide open technical burly stuff, as 666 said youd definately gain maneuverability while keeping stabilty, because, if you got these in a stiff flex, id say theyd destroy just about anything.
I have 185 FFGS (240flex). I'm 5'10, 150lbs. I was pretty nervous about skiing such a burly ski for my size, but now that I've put a few days on em, I'm glad they are what they are. If I'm not on it the skis take me for a ride, so I definitely have to ski aggressively to make them do what I want them to do. We're still working through the rough times in our relationship. One of the guys I work with saw me walking out of the locker room with them before we took our first run together and told me not to expect much from them right away. "That ski will work you until it figures out how you ski and you come to understand eachother. It'll be a long break in period...but look forward to the benefits..." His words were true. I loved the first few runs in windblown super dense powder, but once I got tired the skis started taking me for a ride. After a couple more days on them we are starting to ski well together and understand each other. Oh, god... that's kinda scary, definitely proves that my skis are the only man in my life right now...
Anyways...it depends what your ability is and how aggresive you are. I wouldnt neccessarily say you need to go with a longer ski, b/c the FFGS are a burly ski and need to be driven rather than riden.
MD, you have the leg strength of a 12 year-old girl, so 185s will be plenty of board for you—maybe even too much. You should consider some 175 1080s or one of the new carving skis, both will look sick leaning against your living-room wall.
I'm 6 ft tall and 210 lbs. I am skiing on the shortest skis I've ever skied on and I love them! I skied on 205s forever and over the last 6 years have dropped to 182s!!! They rock! I've got 2 new pair of skis this year Apache Rocons and Apache Chiefs. both 182. Performance is unbelieveable!!! And if anyone wants to say I've got legs of a 12 year old find me a 12 yr old who can squat over 400 lbs!
