Corn Farming TR (12-10-04 )
Went out today expecting very little. Hooked up with Toby (local avy forecaster) for a little avy hunting.
Leaving the house was a sight to be seen. The photo doesn't show it, but imagine the turquoise Bear Lake off to the right.

Toby skinning up avy debris. Avy appeared to be about 24 hours old, spontaneously triggered. 300ft wide-14" deep. Piles up a nice debris field.

Crown photo. Slide broke on a 38-40 degree slope. Slab was sitting on a 4-5" layer of sugar.

Toby left for Logan Peak to get photos of an avalanche that nearly killed a sledneck yesterday. They called him and said they saw or triggered three slides that day, and the fourth buried one of them. Details were sketchy.
So I went over to Chicken Hill and farmed some corn by myself. Condtions were suprisingly excellent. Totally supportable corn. Shown is White Pine Knob taken from Chicken Hill. (where GT40, Lumpy, Stoy & co. and I were in that video last week)

It's tough work farming all this corn by yourself. Needed some ranch hands today to help out.

Bottom line: Low angle slopes to about 33 degrees are pretty safe. Great supportable corn skiing. There was a 1/8" rain crust on the surface this morning. That should provide interest with the next storm.
Get out and score some corn!!!!!!!!
