Making sense of the Jay forecast

I'm unfamiliar with the management and how much they like to throw BS around. I've also heard of Roemer but I'm not sure how much to trust him. I'm considering heading up there early in the sunday AM (got shot to do on Saturday.) Man will the driving ever be crap. We'll see.

2-3 FEET OF SNOW ON THE WAY!
We've got a big storm heading our way and Jim Roemer is calling for 2-3 feet of new snow between tonight and Tuesday and Jay Peak is set to receive more snow than any resort in the northeast.

The Metro Quad will open today, which will allow back and forth access to Stateside via Perry Merrill Ave. and Queen's Highway and will boost our trail count to 23 with greatly expanded skiing and riding for beginners and intermediates. We’ll have 5 lifts will in operation, including: the Jet Triple, Queen's Highway T-bar, Village Chair, Metro Quad and Moving Carpet.

We’re already starting the day off right: we got 2” of new snow overnight! However, temps are warming up quickly and we’ve got some mixed precipitation is in the forecast for this morning. BUT! this wet precipitation should change to straight up snow this afternoon as temps drop. Jim Roemer’s calling for up to 2 feet of fresh stuff between today and through Tuesday! Stay tuned for snowfall updates.

here's my take: as soon as his name is mentioned in a forecast i stop reading.

jay peak pays him. he makes outrageous claims. they don't come through (except for that big dec. storm last year with the crazy wraparound off the gulf of ME--or was that 2 yrs ago?) but people go skiing and have a good time so he doesn't get called on being a quack, or at the very least sensationalizing very unlikely weather scenarios so jay peak can spray in their snow report. that last part's my opinion but over the last few years i've learned to not put faith in his snow totals.


additionally--the jay management wrote the book (or at least the current edition) on throwing bullshit around, ESPECIALLY regarding snow depths. WE HAVE A DRIFT IN THE PARKING LOT WITH 48" OF NEW SNOW!!!!! NONE OF OUR LIFTS WILL RUN TODAY DUE TO HIGH WINDS. THANK YOU FOR CALLING JAY PEAK, HOME OF VERMONTS ONLY!!! AERIAL TRAM which will be on wind hold this week. MOST SNOW, BEST GLADES, HAVE A NICE HIKE!!!!!

that said, the skiing will be fun this weekend, you should go.

Jay definitely sprays a bit but they do get a lot of snow.

If you want real information about snow/wind conditions- and it's really the wind you have to watch out for, because a. half the time all the pow gets blown into Quebec and b. when it doesn't, the lifts aren't turning anyway- try calling First Trax down in Montgomery. They no lie.
