they could want to pack down the snow, to make a base and ensure their snow stays there long-term, despite wind events.
I've seen hills fail to do this early in the season, then a windstorm kicks up and takes all that powdurrrr away.

Don't get your panties is a wad dude. Anything you will actually want to ski has been left untouched by machines, and there is a lot of it.

Yeah, it's just groomed for the paying-full-price tourist skiers. They do pay the bills. Hey, fresh groomers keep the intermediates happy and keep the ungroomed clearer for us. They don't groom the whole mountain... :rolleyes:

lax - they only groom the groomed runs. Mammoth consists mostly of what's in between the groomed runs. If you are coming to Mammoth on Sunday expecting powder, think again, groomed or not groomed. By the time you read this, the powder is all skied out.
Anyway, it's in the 60s this weekend with no precipation in site until maybe friday. You'll have about a foot of wind on Thursday, though.

dude, you don't get out west too often, do you.....mammy is fackin' huge, and while they groom a lot of main runs, it's the rest of the mountain off 23, etc (someone earlier did a nice job of breaking down chairs and terrain for you - read it) that you will want to ski (assuming you can ski that terain)....there is loads of ungroomed terrain, classic west coast/rockie mountain skiing, etc....so chill. enjoy the wind buff, mammy is famous for it...so schmoove....
