Another health insurance ? NSR if I'm lucky

I'm looking at getting a temp. policy through Fortis for the winter, never selected my own policy before, but they seem reasonable, offer the kind of coverage I want, and have been recommended by other mags.

I applied online, got as far as payment, and thought I should at least call and ask for a copy of the policy before I commit.

When I called and asked to have a copy of the policy mailed before I pay, they said they can't do that because it's a "legal contract".

Maybe I'm just over-suspicious, but does it seem strange that you can't see all the fine-print involved with what you're buying before you buy? They said after you buy, they give you ten days to refuse the policy, but they keep an application fee. Again, seems odd to pay for something without knowing the details and then not get all your money back if something's off with the terms.

Is this just the way it is in the real world?

Absolutely. It's called a "scam."

signing your name on something, especially a legal contract, you haven't or can't read is bad news.

Right - I wouldn't have to sign it to get a copy (just pay), but I assume there's some sort of virtual signature clause written in.

That said, I swear there were other mags who used Fortis and were happy with them. If it's a scam, they're putting a ton of money into it.
