Prosecutor: Pacers Players to Be Charged

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Indiana Pacers players will be charged for fighting with fans during the Nov. 19 brawl at the end of a game against the Detroit Pistons, Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca told The Detroit News.

"Whoever was involved in fisticuffs will be charged, regardless if they were wearing a jersey. It's obvious there were several Pacer players and fans that dealt blows," Gorcyca said, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

The prosecutor declined to say which players would be charged or what the charges might be.

Auburn Hills police Lt. James Manning told the newspaper that he expects four members of the Pacers to face assault and battery charges.

Manning said at a news conference Monday that a lawyer for the Pacers told detectives that none of the players would agree to be interviewed by police. Prosecutors could get the police report by the beginning of next week, Manning said.

The fight between spectators and players broke out near the end of the game after an on-court dispute over a foul. A fan hurled a drink at Pacers forward Ron Artest, who charged into the stands, followed by teammates.

Artest was suspended without pay for the rest of the season by the NBA; Stephen Jackson was suspended for 30 games, Jermaine O'Neal for 25. The players' union appealed those punishments.

Police determined that a fourth member of the Pacers, reserve center David Harrison, was involved in the brawl, too, but the NBA didn't suspend him.

the pacers won't even talk to the cops.

They are very stupid for doing this. Oakland county is one of the top five wealthiest counties in the country which gives them plenty of money to spend putting people in jail.

prediction: Warrants....and lots of them.
If they don't talk to the cops they will be arrested and
extradited to MI.

I would absolutely LOVE to see some Pacers spend a week in jail for this.

It would not surprise me at all if they were given jail time.

They put everyone in jail here.

I've heard talk that some of the fans involved were going to sue the Pacers.

I am sure that this has been said in the other thread discussing this fight, but in addition to criminal charges, I think that all the Pacers invovled in this bullshit should be kicked out the league. Suspension without pay is one thing, but those particular people know that they will be playing again, at most, playing next season. Why should they be allowed to play at all if this is the way in which they choose to conduct themselves. Such bullshit...anybody see this little boy crying in his big brother's arms????

Oakland County has a zero tolerance policy!! So keep in mind the spectators will also get what they deserve, especially the ones with past criminal records. Anybody who works in the legal field in the Detroit area knows not to screw up in Oakalnd county because you will get charged and sentenced.

This would make a perfect episode of "When Keepig it Real Goes Wrong" on Chappell's Show.

The zero tolerance policy deals with underage kids drinking and driving. Not beating people up. The entire United States has a zero tolerance policy on beating people up.

I agree that the majority of the United States having zero tolarence on beating people up. however, I have witnessed to many violent crimes go virtually unpunished in Macomb County. The worse one was a stabbing between co-workers in one of the auto plants. When I asked the officer who interviewed me why they where not charging them he told me that the corporation and union asked them not to, due to the bad publicity it would bring in the media. You know as well as me that Oakland County would not allow that.

Now on a different topic...... We need the temps to start dropping around here. I'm not sure about you but I cannot wait until January to hit the snow.

Yeah Oakland co. definetly would have charged someone with a stabbing. Thats why they are one of the wealthiest counties......they keep handing out fines.

re snow: Soon, hopefully......It's cold enough. Just not snowing.

Yeah, just ask Jack Kevorkian! The Oakland County Prosecutor, Gorcyca, was the one who locked him up.

I thought this was going to be another PNW weather thread.
