Hey...was wondering if anyone had any reports/guesses on condition of road to Maroon Lake under the Bells? Understand road was just closed, but anyone know how frequent people lay x-cross track up to the lake or possibly flat out compact trail for hiking boot? This is about a 6-mile stretch from the snow berm to Lake, right?
Would like to get up to Maroon Lake on Sat with my lady. Tx much!
People were driving up it last weekend. I would assume you could probably ride a bike.
On further review, probably not a bike. Xc would be fairly mellow.
Can anyone snowmobile up to the lake or only Tlazy7?
Any one can snow-mo up. T-lazy are just the sole guiding concession up there.
While on the subject of Aspen, has anyone heard the rumor that Ajax is going to open this Saturday? And can anyone more in the know than me confirm/deny this?
Art says the tops skiing really well. It's a definite maybe. Should be final later today or tomorrow?

I closed the gate on the 15th, xc or rando will be your best human powered bet, snowmobile will also work. About 6 miles sounds about right.

What are your thoughts on using standard xc nordic ski's with scaled kicked zones? Grade of road allow for this, or is it better to use a rando setup with full out skin? The latter would be issue for my lady as we haven't scrambled bindings together for her setup.
Boot/gaiter flat out silly? Tough to tell how much snow is down in valley from Highlands webcam. Road was dry last weekend, so guessing no more than 7-8" storm totals, then further reduced by a solid 3 days of sun-melt.
I think nordic would be the way to go. It's not that steep, just steady. But you might be breaking trail if someone from T Lazy 7 hasn't run a sled up there yet. If they have, it would be easy and I bet you could even ride a bike.
