FKS mounting and brake bending tip

I was mounting up some ski the other night and thought I should share some tips for mounting and brake bending I've been using for the past few years.

As the wide jig for FKS is still rather elusive (at least in these parts) I've been using a combination of jigs, along with CAREFUL measuring to mount them on wide skis. I use the standard Axial wide jig for the toe, then, with the standard FKS jig on top of the ski drop four spare bits through the jig into the just drilled toe holes. Using a caliper carefully center the FKS jig for the heel, tape on carefully and drill. Used this seven-eight times and with careful measuring have better tolerances better then using other jigs for other bindings.

As for the brake bending, follow this excellent tutorial [ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24647"]http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24647[/ame] . The hardest part is getting the spring back in. To ease this, compress the spring in a vise and zip tie it down. Re-insert spring and cut zip tip. Voilà... easy.

easiest thing to do, just jam it in from the front. no vise required. i use a flathead screwdriver and hammer to get it in. wedge one half of it in, then weasel the other half in with a few taps from the hammer. might be tricky at first but takes no more than 10 seconds once you get the hang of it. and i wear safety glasses for all spring operations, more than once i've had springs rocketing across the room.

^That's how I used to do it too... I bent a spring or two doing it, maybe I'm just too strong ;) or a hack.
