Streisand's comment re CBS dumping show

I post this on a skiing forum because the few times that I ski Sundance, I see her condo and I'm reminded of how much I dislike this wacko.

Streisand's comment after her husband Jim Brolin's Reagan movie was tossed from CBS to Showtime:
"This is typical of what the right wing does when they are faced with a truth that is not 100 percent positive for their side — they ... scream and yell until they get their way. Instead of boycotting and trying to have the movie changed, why don’t they all just wait to see the film when it airs like the rest of us?"

Hmmmm. Yeah. That would work. Consume the controversial product and then let's discuss amongst ourselves whether we should have. Kind of a reverse-boycott thing where we support and then discuss...? I don't know whether she's dumb or she's just treating the public like we're stupid. What a FREAK!

Well, she says it in a kind of fucked-up way, but I think what she's trying to say is how can these morons get so worked up about something they haven't even seen? They don't know what's in the movie, but they're against it anyway. Brilliant.

reagan's son michael (a right wing asshole idiot) was complaining that they chose a lousy actor (brolin) to play his father. Sounds like perfect casting to me.

She does have something of the Weird Al Jankovic about her in that shot.

First, if Barb thinks that I should believe anything I see on a station that carries dumb assed shows like "Survivor", she needs her head examined. Secondarily, our local talk radio played about a half-hour of audio excerpts from the movie, it sounded like a dumb soap opera.

Huh? I sort of thought this was the basic nature of Democracy. Or at least some really good bickering. Is there a difference?

All that aside, her voice is nails on the chalkboard with howling cats to me. I run from the room if her voice comes up. If they could produce a record of her and the Carpenters, the producers could score millions by selling to bar owners who needed to clear the place at closing time.

This thread is great, I reallly could give a shit as to what Streisand says, but I do find her constant protest and boycotts annoying. It gets back to an old thread from pmag, about just because you have a voice in the public eye does or does not give you the right to mouth every god damn thing that comes to mind.

Imagine if some of the crap that is said here on a daily basis was distributed worldwide for public opinion?

What is she worrying about? Who would watch a movie about Reagan anyway? Might as well watch a movie about Gerald (oh, am I president?) Ford or that Garfield dude.

Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States and he became known as the first skiing president, putting Vail and Beaver Creek on the map as our country's place to ski. In a round about way he was selling skiing in Colorado to the entire world.

Gerald R. Ford started skiing back in 1939 in New England. In 1968 Ford vacationed in Colorado for the first time and the rest is history. One of the many contributions Ford has made to the sport of skiing his role in bringing two World Alpine Ski Championships to the State of Colorado. It was a major coup for the area to be awarded the event, giving Colorado a chance to promote ski racing in this country by taking one of the sport's preeminent events, putting it in the forefront of national attention and showing the world the U.S. can hold a great ski race, twice in a ten year period. Ford has served on the board of the Vail Valley Foundation for over twenty years.

He established the Ford Cup in Vail in 1982, which is now called the American Ski Classic. He created the Jerry Ford Invitational Golf Tournament that lured top golf professionals from around the country to come to Colorado, promoting Vail not only as a great winter destination but summer as well. This created an opportunity to raise funds that would be invested into the Vail community.

President Ford acts as an ambassador of sorts, promoting not only Vail but also Colorado and the great skiing we have throughout the state.

It's no secret I'm on the conservative side but almost always vote a split ticket--repub prez, demo gov.
I believe that's a more common practice than politicians realize...people actually thinking through the issues rather than just blankly punching a ballot all for one party or the other.

CBS has all the bases covered. First they cave in to pressure by the self appointed censors not to show the movie. Second they sell rights to broadcast it to Showtime. Third they still make money from the licensing. Brilliant.
Although I agree you can't judge without viewing, it seems Matt Drudge (sp?) got hold of the script and read portions of it on his (right wing) radio show. So in fact people got upset about it from hearing some of the dialogue.
As terrible a president as Reagan was, you have to have some sympathy for Nancy for her ongoing ordeal dealing with Ronny's Alzheimers. They certainly aren't basking in their former glory now.

Anyone ever read / seen "Being There"...that's what Ronald Reagan reminds me of...just this clueless dolt walking through life....mouthing the right words at the right times.
