So Unparalleled 5 was showing in town. There was a segment in the movie about a California ski-morning/surf-afternoon day. sounded cool.

It starts with the "ski morning". Rail after rail on a sunny warm spring corn day at Squaw. The voiceover says "The skiing wasn't that good, so we hit the park"

In the background of the shot was Main West Face off of KT-22, covered in snow and soft bumps top to bottom.

I was incredulous:mad: Was I missing something - no good skiing?? West Main Face at Squaw is amazing - 2000' of steep consistent fall line. Skiing something like that top-to-bottom on tele's takes quads of steel, horse lungs, and skill.

Maybe the snow was still cold and hard...i don't know. The park snow looked soft enough.

I know that i'm not representative of the entire riding community, but I am tired of watching the same 50-50 fakie out or 540 tail grab over and over and over. It's boring after a while. Don't the makers see how the audience starts to shift in their seats during these parts of their films?

How about a little more real skiing in a "skiing" movie. So here's one vote for less repetitive park skiing in movies. :cussing:

Yeah, but to someone who's not into bump skiing, watching someone ski a bump line is like a non-parker watching someone hit 1000 tiny rails in a row.

I much prefer big mountain and freeride skiing over park, but something to keep in mind with Lost Season.

Bones filmed that out of his pocket, and when 16mm is so expensive, you have to use it carefully. Jibby stuff is about the easiest to shoot, because you can get a lot without burning a ton of film. Also, knowing the guys he was filming with, if KT had been good, they would have been there. Bumps are about the least interesting thing for most people to watch.

Agreed. And it has been way too long since the last storm.

Although, initially i was a bit dismayed about all the park stuff in films, i am beginning to enjoy it. especially when they use some interesting camera angles and good tunes. Plus, these guys are going so big off these massive hits/tabletops it is pretty amazing.

would you really have wanted the film to step back 15 years and show you BUMP SKIING!?!? that would have been a massive step backwards for freeskiing.

it's not that i want to watch mogul skiing, per se. I don't sit in my basement with old Wayne Wong films and a bottle of astroglide :rolleyes:

I just thought the statement "The skiing wasn't any good" was dumb.

I just think that they should be open to the possibilities...and the fact that their audience just might be open to seeing the variety on the slopes...not just park over and over and over.

and yes, LPH, they go HUGE and that's fun to watch. but not ad nauseum.

Tap, I'm with you, and maybe I really am too old to sit through one 540 after another and appreciate it...but nothing looks quite like a clean line through the bumps. Just last week I threw Stump's "Fistfull of Moguls" in the VCR. Why? Watching 5 or 6 guys following one after another through the bumps at ridiculous speeds is impressive. Bumps are the under appreciated aspect of skiing that everyone has access to...every ski area I've ever seen has moguls.

Now, a cool shot for that would be to claim that the group split, start showing some jibbing and then zoom past it to 3 or 4 guys zipping up a line through the bumps...variety.

It's not under appreciated, it just sucks.

It does seem like all we ever see is 360/540 with a tail grab. I did however dig the angles the MSP boys got in the park when they followed in the heli. Very cool and we need more of that.

while I could care less about most park skiing, there are a few that make it look so easy. guys like Candide are amazing to watch.

but as far as bumps go. While I like to ski moguls and watch other skiing a zipper line in them I think they are boring to watch on flim unless they are throwing some inverts. but I don't want to see a bump comp....yawn....
