I'm trying to go both ways, because my husband really wants me to. But it really is in my nature to go just one way, and that is...
on skis!! :D
I'm still trying to learn the board though, but it sucks to go back to crawling when you already learned how to run. Maybe now that I have a season pass this year, and presumably will be on the hill more, it will be the year I learn.

I skied until 1992 then boarded pretty much every season through to 1998 then got back on skis again. Have boarded intermittently since but get worse every time I get on the ol' plank.
Yeah, what he said. I got really sick of skiing in '95 (small mtn- Holiday Valley,NY). Tried snowboarding a couple times prior, but always with my skis in the truck as back-up. Bad idea. I would flail for 2 runs, and then go running to my skis. Leave 'em at home if you really want to learn.Quote:

Moved to Boulder in '96, and worked for Device MFG. A small, now defunct, step-in manufacturer. So, needless to say- I was boarding full time in CO. Traversing with a snowboard all day sux. Don't let anyone tell you differently.That is the main reason I don't board anymore. My legs can't handle the traverse. It is unlike anything you do in your normal every day activity. Try walking around on your toes for half a day, and then your heels the other half. It just isn't something I have found I can train for.
The other problem is, when I am on a board, I am looking at the lines like a skier. It is similar, but in no way the same. The board just does not respond like skis would. The line you see doesn't feel the same as your brain thinks it should.
I still long for a wide open powder field, or an untracked glade, or a burly cornice to hit with a snowboard. But the truth is, the new skis float and carve just as well as a 172 board does. So, to make a long story longer, I will stick to skiing for now.
P.S.- There still is no feeling in the world comparable to a nicely laid out front side carve in powder, or on a groomer.

prolly about 50/50 these days...snowboard mostly powder days at the resort, ski mostly in the BC.
I learned to SB after skiing for many years so it was pretty easy.....it's all i did for a few years until i tried fat skis, then all i did was ski for a few years. Now i like to mix it up. I definately found that SBing improved my skiing and vice versa.
People used to say snowboarding is easier to learn, but i think with modern ski gear it would be just as easy.
90/10 Ski. I am just a lot better at skiing, but I do enjoy boarding.

season 7 have skied a handfull of days so far...skiing tomorrow morning but teaching another maggot to snowboard in the afternoon....its gonna be interesting...she says she has snowboarded before but she is a heli guide with maybee 2000 days on skis!
skied from 5th thru 10th grade, snowboarded for 2 years, then went back to skiing to compete USSA moguls.
I still ride about 2 days a year...wnen my friends can convince me and they lend me a setup. Like someone else said, i guess im just better at skiing, although i was close to buying a new snowboard this summer.
After 16 years of skateboarding and 6 of surfing, im fairly comfortable on 1 plank:)
I know I keep trying to pressure my girlfreind. I told her that it would throw things into the mix and add a little excitement. She hasn't bit yet for obvious reasons.Quote:

Boarding can be learned VERY quickly - I strapped on a board for the first time ever mid-December 2003, and was employed as an instructor by February 2004, even riding portions of the park. The first few days in the bindings suck HARD, to be sure, since you're constantly landing on your ass and your head, but after you get some edge control the learning curve just skyrockets. It's a beautiful feeling, floating through powder or hitting a sweet kicker....
Started learning to ski in March of 2004; can see that it will take much more time and energy to get to the same level skiing as on my board. Skiing still hasn't grabbed me like boarding has, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and invest some time two planking it. As long as we get some crappy days where I won't mind staying on the groomers......

I'm much happier in varied conditions on skis. Moguls on the board are the pits and I'm far more confortable at speed on skis due to the symetrical stance.

I started skiing when I was 2 years old, and picked up snowboarding in 5th grade. I did both until I was in 8th grade, and then stuck with snowboarding. I'm 21 now, and have skied maybe 5 times in the last 8 years. I stopped racing in 8th grade, and I've been kicking myself for it since.
Moguls suck on a snowboard, everything else is pretty even. I haven't owned a ski setup in 8 years or so, but I would love to be able to say "I feel like skiing today". I think I'm going to have to pick up some skis this winter, but being a broke college student is holding me back.
