We hiked to the "Top of the World" (Mount Elbert) to scrape the "Bottom of the Barrel" of the ski season here in CO.
Nothing gnarly or steep, just good times with great folks.
Catch the jist below, or see more pretty (and not so pretty) pictures here.
The weather down in Golden has been miserable over the past week with temperatures up in the 100's. On Saturday, in order to beat the heat and get a little skiing adventure in, Kelly and I met up with Mr and Mrs Montanaskier in Leadville with the intentions of skiing Mount Elbert the next day. Good times were had by all. We didn't have any expectations of skiing anything particularly steep or burly, but we certainly had fun skiing together at the end of June from the roof of the Rockies.
On Saturday night we camped between Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. On Sunday we woke up and hit the trail. (A quick aside to say that I've never seen someone blaze up a mountain with a full pack as Mrs Montanaskier...very impressive!)
Tomorrow I leave to spend two weeks in Maine, but I am not hanging up the skis yet. I'd like to get at least one ski day in every month this year, so in about mid-July I'll get back on the sticks (who knows, I may have to take a trip to the PNW).

nice TR and nice to ski with you two. It was a fun day, my calves are still shredded. I've got the 4th of July left then I'm done. Safe travels to Maine and have fun.

I really enjoy "bottom of the barrel" summer skiing. Sorry I missed you guys, but I'm not so sorry I missed that hike.
