K-Mart opening morning TR
Went to K-Mart today, and had a decently good time. My morning started with a jonging back to snowshed to pick up my pass, but that was just a mild nuisance, as parking was very available. After tossin' on the gear and putting on the new boots (1.5 sizes smaller than last years, oof!) it was time to party. Party is an apt word as well, since I got on the first gondola with 2 old people with it reeking of weed. Ganja-la indeed. After taking a few runs and realizing what a gaper I tend to be on opening day, I went to meet up with the K-chatters/TGR crew.
The conditions were excellent, with relatively bluebird skies, a small amount of wind (if any), and the weather being a balmy 20-27 degrees. The coverage on the trails was quite good, and K-mart did a good job throwing tons of snow onto the trails, preventing any serious icing or boilerplate. This brings me to the big downer of the day, which was the snowguns. Dear god those fucking snowguns. There were about 8-10 on every trail, and it was impossible to ski more than 100 feet without getting blasted in the face by one, blinding you. After meeting up with mtn. man and spanky, I went to follow them and lost them after half a trail, as my goggles became a sheet of ice and I was functioning solely on radar. I will note here that I do not possess radar, which should give you a good idea of how I lost them. They were headed to some glade which I had no clue about, as my gaper ass depends on mtn. man's grey helmet to navigate. There were also about 10 billion grey helmets out there today, making my task that much worse.
In summation, coverage is good, weather was good, but I couldn't stay out past noon due to not being able to see a damn thing through 75% of the trail and my face getting abraided by snow gun crystals. To recreate this you can throw about thirty snowcones into a leaf blower then point it at your face. That was every trail. Should be insane this weekend.
