Stoy and I left Cache Valley eeeeearrly to make some turns in Northern Utah:

Looking west across the valley. Check out the slide path / deposition field in the runout of this canyon. The slide happened last winter. There's a little cabin that narrowly missed getting buried.

The cornices aren't big yet, but they will be. We found a nice solid snowpack about 18" deep in the pit Alex dug.

Sweet! How were the turns?

Also, I'd say that was either a very small lion or a bobcat. An adult lion print is about the size of your whole hand.

Yeah, that makes sense. Seemed kind of small. Still, I wouldn't want to walk up on it on that ridgeline.

Those are definitely lynx or bobcat tracks. Way to small for a cougar.

I had heard that a big cougar leaves a 4" track. This one was not that big, but somewhere near that.

They're about 1500 nautical miles south-southwest of Odgen. They can only be accessed by a time-travelling Delorian powered by a flux-capicator, because they were bulldozed in 1958.

Sorry I missed out on Swan Flats with you. I hope you were able to get out anyway. Next time, I'm there! I can't wait until I get some time off so I can hlpe to put some miles on your sled.

I saw a lynx run across the clearing under the Fitzsimmons chair on Whistler two or three years ago. Very cool! I think they are fairly reclusive.

Nice stuff, 2P and Stoy!! Here I was stuck in a resort all day, two resorts.
I gotta lay some skin track soon. I got no exercise virtually all summer and now I'm grunting like a stuck pig at the end of the day for being out of shape when the season hits. Again....

i'm game for Wed. or thursday. Have to see when my weekly meeting is, probably thursday am. I'd like to bag a peak or so. Anything is the sun seems creamy!

THose tracks were about 2.5- 3 inches, smaller cat but a big cat nonetheless.

the foot gets better by the day...funny, feels better in a ski boot than anything else. Guess I need to ski more.

Shawn...that pic of you is so 80's....where's the flourescent one piece when you need it?

I saw a lynx a couple years ago while touring on O'Glory (near Rossand) it walked up the skin track then deked off into the bush I saw it behind a tree from about 20 feet then it disappeared. Even though the snow was soft I had a hard time finding its tracks on the skin track and where it left the track. It hopped from the track to the hard snow under a tree then from there to another tree. Pretty sneaky little bugger.
