Postive Vibes needed
I have been hesitant to post this, but one of my good friends and his wife had their second child last Saturday. About 10 minutes after giving birth, her blood pressure shot up and she had a massive stroke. She wasn't expected to live through the night. Amazingly, she has held on. Yesterday her family said that she moved her fingers. The doctors have no idea what the prognosis is, and the family has been hesitant to pass many test results on. Based on teh reaction of the family, my hunch is that the prognosis is not good.
Her husband is a wreck. They have a 3 year old little boy and a week old boy. The ordeal is so emotionally draining on us, as friends, that I cannot imagine what it is doing to her family. We have been their for emotional support, physical support, and to help with the children. All I've wanted to do since I found out is to hold my kids and spouse. If you have a moment, please keep them in your thoughts and say a little prayer.

That's absolutely horrifying. A long-time friend of mine was having issues w/ blood pressure while she was pregnant, and it made us all very nervous. Her and her family will be in my prayers.

Best of luck to all involved. Thoughts and vibes heading your way.

I hope all works out for the best. :(

I thought MD9's dental story was bad, but this kinda puts it into perspective.
Just be as good a friend as you can be.
-
I can't imagine how the family must feel.
Thinking positive thoughts.

Wow, what a tough situation. Thoughts going out.....

cololi,
I absolutely will be thinking the best for you and your friends... and hope that it turns around quickly.
as i mentioned in another thread, my best friend was just re- hospitalized post birth for elevated BP with risk of seizure/stroke, so I can sort of understand the situation.
You're doing everything you can do, that's awesome you are there for the kids and your friends.
Best of luck,
elis.

That's horrible - just horrible. My partner's buddy lost his wife that way. I cannot imagine being left to raise my kids without my wife around to do all the work.
Prayers sent.

Geez, that's horrible. Miracles can and do happen ... and sometimes the doctors are wrong. I'm hoping she's someone who defeats the odds. You're being a great friend by supporting their family.
I've taken care of people that the docs said wouldn't make it. But ... they did. I dunno if you're visiting her at all, but remember to encourage her. Talk to her, hold her hand, let her know you're all rooting for her.
Hang in there.

Thanks for all the kind words. I went to the hospital for a visit Friday night. I couldn't find the family anywhere. I went to the ICU, no one around (nurses wouldn't tell me a thing and the rrom is off limits). Went to the maternity floor. The baby was in the nursery, but no family around. Decided to check the cafeteria, there was ahuge group of family and friends gathered. Judging by everyone reactions, I knew something positive had happened. Turns out that she started moving her limbs late Thursday night, opened her eyes briefly and acknowledged some her family members. She was intibated, so she couldn't talk, but was also able to scribble a note. By Friday afternoon, she had fully regained conciousness (sp?) and was no longer on a respirator. She was able to talk and remembered who everyone was. She also was able to visit her newborn. There are still some concerns, but the doctors are much more upbeat than they were. Her Kidneys had stopped working early on in the ordeal, but they are showing signs of recovering. Apparently, she has been diagnosed with TTP, which I know nothing about, but it has something to do with the blood and platelettes or something like that.
Again, thanks for all the kind words.

I just opened this thread, and I was so sad until I just read your last post. I"m so glad to hear that she is on her way back. Thank god. I can't even imagine the relief and elation the family is feeling. It sounds like she's made it through the worst.
My ex boyfriend's wife, who was also a dear friend of mine, passed away 3 days after giving birth to their first son after suffering a stroke. She went into a coma and never woke up. I'm so glad to hear that your friend is pulling through.
Continued good vibes and healing thoughts sent your way.

Shit man, that's great news. I was cringing over every word in your post, fearing the worst. What a beautiful thing, that's she is ok and gets to hold her baby. Awesome.

A maggott miracle! That is awesome news.
This thread has me seriously sketched out as my wife and I quickly (tomorrow...) approach our due date...
