I'll just phone the FBO and have my private jet on standby for "soon" - no problem.

Can't wait to watch the O.C. on Tivo soon :D
Whoa. So Collins isn't gonna be ready? They're admitting it at least. That's still pretty fucked up. They better not have the entire side of the mountain closed or anything lame like that.
that's fine with me. it just means less tracks on the good stuff.
Bingo! :D :the_fingeQuote:

No Collins=fresh turns every run :D
i never said it would be good for all season. just early season. when the lines get long for x-mas, we're going to need that lift bad.
fukked up?Quote:

when the first of our series of huge storms came, the cable & their tools were on the ground.
they got covered in feet upon feet of snow.
from what the folks I travel with told me the Alta crew tried to warn Dopplemeyer(?) that that could happen, but they are the lift pros, so they had to get the Few employees around to dig out their tools.
these things are always tight, it got delayed by lots of snow.
ya know what is taking the time thats not letting them open up?
load testing, ensuring your sorry ungrateful ass' safety. If they have that side closed for safety, listen to them.
Learn there are places to trust closures, and Alta is one of them.
Sorry for the rant, I just dont like the air of entitlement of it should be open NOW.
plus i heard all about the travails of getting it up while working with some altafolk on the road.
you will get plenty of Collins laps, relax.
and as APD said, you can get to most anything it accesses from alby side, just a little more work
Take a deep breath and check your ass for foreign objects. The bottom line is The High T runs, High Rustler, Eagle's Nest, Fred's trees, Greely Bowl, Gunsight and Ballroom are going to be barely accessible by resort skiing standards. (Goin up sunnyside, then the loaf, then return to germ traverse, then traversing out to whatever line you want, skiing it, then taking the transfer tow at the bottom, and repeating is pretty involved.) I never asked them to put in this new lift. Someone fucked up. This isn't some new lift off to the side. It is necessary for accessing all of the stuff I listed above. Supreme and Wildcat will be worthless because of the lines on pow days. The mountain is crippled until that lift is open. I was on the edge of not buying a pass this year, but I decided to at the last minute. At the moment I'm not so happy with my purchase because of the things I discussed above. So pull that hard-working Alta/Doppelmayr employee out of your ass and tell him to get back to work, because I've got some skiing to do.
A powder day with no Collins would be seriously sick. You wouldn't get a lot of laps in, but the pow would last well into the afternoon. You might also manage to score some fresh off of Wildcat, since I suspect most traffic would be on Sugarloaf and Supreme.
hey bro I think 1 to 2 weeks of variable snow conditions do not a season make,Quote:

again, nobody fukked up, we got walloped early with snow.
Dude, give them a break, this is the earliest any Utah resort has ever opened. They really couldn't plan for this. They'll get the lift open eventually, and in the meantime, the mountain will have a ton of "secret" stashes. The laps you're describing are no worse than what Blackcomb skiers go through to ski the stuff off Spanky's ladder.Quote:

I agree. I think the lift builders should have planned on Alta getting record amounts of early season snow.
Or, I don't agree because that is fucking retarded.
120 inches of October snow = understandable that the "Pain Train" is opening a few weeks late.
AntiSoCal - I'm talking about half the mountain, you're talking about some special shot at Whistler. And thanks for calling me a whiny asshole, you prick. I was just responding to someone who I thought went off half cocked at a short sentence I wrote off-the-cuff when I heard about the delay.
I think maybe we have different ideas about what this delay really means. A lot of people including myself have been saying it didn't look like this lift was going to be ready all summer. In addition, it didn't look like they were really doing much for the first part of the summer, which is maybe why they're in such a tight spot now. Now our suspicions have been confirmed, even though there is this thing with the weather to throw into the mix. If it really is only due to the bad weather they had, then it shoudn't be delayed more than a week or two, in which case you're right Woodsy, it's no big deal. However, I can see it stretching out for months, now that it's winter and bad weather is going to be the rule, not the exception. If that happens, it is a big deal.
Of course, I can appreciate the idea of getting fresh tracks on those runs all day long. But I think not having that lift is going to screw up the mountain pretty bad, and make it a headache overall. All I'm saying is, let's hope they're not more behind than they're letting on.
Wait, I know that wasn't directed at me because you know that I was kidding, but I do want to get out there soon.Quote:

I shouldn't even open my mouth (because it never does any good in this forum), but as a professional project manager that has built towers all over the world, mostly in mountainous terrain, this is a fuck up of substantial proportions. If I was running this project and had this delay, I would expect to be fired, period. There is a specific window to get the work done and all planning should be done with this in mind (read no later than 1 Oct 04 for all weather dependant operations). That being said, working in the mountains is tough and shit happens. I guess I’m just a little surprised and disappointed in Dopplemeyer; they are a big name in the lift business and typically know how to get the tough jobs done.Quote:
