Charlie Wilson's War
If you have any wonder or concern about terrorism, where it came from (as far as terrorism aimed towards us is concerned) why shit is the way it is in the Middle East and just a general understanding of how they run shit in the government, you NEED to read this.
We really really did dig this hole for ourselves...
And its really really sucks.
-
I've been wanting to read that book.
Was it an easy read?
-
Really easy read.
When reading the book you don't know whether to commend or weep for our government. The men/women in the book are so redonkulous that the oft used phrase "The truth is sometimes stranger than fiction" truly applies.
I will say this however, when the stars align just right and the CIA assigns the right people to the task, gives them the latitude they need and gets out of the way - look the hell out.
The book also bolsters the claim that Richard Perle is a true wanker and Ollie North is a dipshit.
-
But Ollie North IS a total dipshit.
Considering the number of people they interviewed to make this book and whatnot, I'd have to say the CIA and most of the government think he's an asshat.
The book is for the most part an easy read, there are some long drawn out parts about mundane crap that means alot a chapter later. I caught myself laughing hysterically whenever they made references to people who are considered terrorists now.
