What are these boots?

They say Performa 9.0 Superforce on them but I think they are not stock (protos maybe?). This has a few implications for fitting.

I think they date from '00 or '01 but I can't work out exactly what they are.

Firstly, they are marked as having a flex rating of 115 - higher than the Performa 10.0 Axe (supposedly high performance) from that year. Secondly, they have a couple of rivets in the lower, rear cuff that I don't remember as standard from this era. Thridly, they don't have a cant adjustment although the outside ankle rivet is big enough to take one (I think) and has little arrows marked where one would go; I thought these were higher end boots and would have them..

Any ideas what these are? Am I right in thinking they are bastard Frankenboots? They don't appear to have been messed around with since leaving the factory. Any idea if it would be be possible to poop the ankle rivet out and add a canting screw?

I'm thinking that these could be a cheap fix for me as I may not be able to afford to get sorted out with some really well-fitted new boots (major bummero). Also, any ideas which brand liners have the higest cuff? The cuff on these is a tad low for me and I'll have to change the liners anyway (current ones are short lasted) and add Boosters (and maybe spoilers too) to get these tolerably right.

Nordica retailers have some "Beast" plastic spoilers as an accessory .
I use them with my thermoflexes (front side) ,since my rossi xxxs have a quite low shell.

They cost me some 2 euros.

This is what I remember: During the early '90 Salomon had some "race stock" boots that were not there plug WC boots. I got mine thought shop form. They did have a cant adjustment however. So yeah, their were plenty of Solly boots around that were neither plug nor retail. I think you've got the time frame about right.

Not a Frankenboot at all. Just found this site and here's my first post.

I actually have this same boot, it's an off the rack Salomon Performa from 00-01 or so (you're right) and as far as I can tell, it's basically an X scream 10/wave10 with a performa fit. Think it became the X scream the very next year; it was the same boot, with just a different moniker. (Think I remember seeing pix of Kent Kreitler, if you remember him, wearing them) That "Force" bit on there is a transition from the superforce 9s (?) line that immediately preceded it. It's higher volume, with a customfit liner. No idea what's under the button there. I picked mine up new a couple years ago for cheap, and served me well, but I'm on the hunt for a new boot with a narrower last.

Poop it out? Possible, but potentially painful. And there would be the problem of swallowing it in the first place.

my best ski buddy just dumped his pair of these at the end of last season - they were the direct predecessor of the first x-scream boot, which followed the next year, and were the match for the force/superforce skis that were about then, all of which was mentioned above now that I look!

the cant I'm not sure...at this time they were all about the yellow plastic carving wedges, which could be fitted by your boot fitter to get your fit right, and basically was the same idea as canting, as it obviously pushed you in a particular direction to rectify your alignment, although it didnt work too well. It also created more leverage for more supa-hip-to-the-snow-power-carves!!! :D

highest liners....atomic and lange liners from the race range all come pretty high.....

ohh and I think they are actaully about 98/99 season too - abit older than you thought.

3/4 years of x wave, 2/3 years of x-scream.... remember cos it was the first year I started to boot fit, when back in school too :rolleyes:
