I know i'm probably just beating the skin off of a dead horse, but wondering what the skiing and snow is like in St Moritz? Is there decent off piste and what's the cost of living and employment situations like relative to other Euro resorts.

I'm biased. I hate SM. Landscape is :eek: , but the place is a magnet for ass :fuckyou: of any kind. Prolly the worst in all alps. said that, you can ski there, sure.
I'm going to be heading somewhere over in Euro land towards the end of January and have a friend whose family owns a hotel in SM. That being said I would rather be somewhere not full of dicks.
Haven't been there so this is all 3rd party hearsay.
SM itself as a town, full of schwankynasty. (I think thats a good non-word to describe it?) However, there are a couple of cool smaller ski areas in that region. I'm gonna butcher the spelling but I have heard that Diavolezza and Lagalb are both cool, small, and challenging hills with long glacier runs. One could definitely have fun in the valley, just don't expect anything cheap or too many young ski bums to hang with.
Let's try a less biassed approach: St. Moritz has it's ups too despite the tons of clowns around there.
The gapers won't compete with you for morning powder since they don't know how to spell backcountry. Plus if you are into AT the region above Julier Pass is mindblowing (so is the whole region anyway), although for the high Bernina snow coverage in Januar is not sufficient yet (## of crevasses).
Furthermore the region provides good verticals (up to 5000 ft.).
On top of it it's usually pretty safe on snow for the Southern Alps.
Downside is everything is pretty pricey - expect to spend a lot of what you save on lodging for food and other stuff. The different areas are on different mountains with no interlink, getting around without car is inconvenient and switching during day doesn't make lot sense there. On sunny weekends it can get crowded when especially the Italians invade (did you listen Verbier? :wink: ).

i've been there a few times several years ago when i lived in zurich. i had a blast there each time. definitely pricey but good nightlife and good snow. not really known for offpiste but as hicks said there is not a lot of competition. the fur coat and gucci crowds dont get on the mountain before 11am and even then you can always find something untracked.
i don't think i would make it my primary choice for a season. but then again if i had the opp i probably would do it. lots of other choices nearby - davos, samnaun, ischgl, lenzerheide, valbella, and flims-laax a bit further. all are excellent.
