Not quite, Arty. No one wants that airport. Bishop was supposed to have it, originally (which makes the most sense given that Bishop's weather is less frenetic), but the citizens fought it. The FAA has given MILLIONS of dollars to expand Mammoth/Yosemite (what it's now called), but the Sierra Club is holding it up. The latest article on the airport debacle is
here with the FAA threatening to withdraw the committed funds.
By the way, the proposed flight plan is to fly out of Dallas and Chicago only, with the push toward mid-week skiers. Even if this goes through, it would be years before there's a flight out of San Diego or San Francisco, let alone Los Angeles, to Mammoth.
